Default Electric motorcycle maker Zero updates street and off-road lineup

Quote:
Electric motorcycle maker Zero has announced a newly revamped lineup for 2011, with all four of their on- and off-road models getting upgraded suspensions, wheels, and brakes, more robust powertrains, styling updates, and faster charging capability.

Street-legal versions of the off-road X and MX models are now available, and the road-going S and dual-purpose DS models now get a maintenance-free drive belt in place of chain drive for what Zero says is smoother, quieter operation.

Capacity of power packs has been increased by 12.5 percent for greater range, and the company says a new quick-start charging option can deliver a full charge in half the time of previous models. Zero claims a maximum range of 58 miles for the S, with a battery-pack lifespan of 70,000 miles. Top speed is 67mph. Range for the off-road bikes is expressed in time, due to terrain and riding style variation, at 30-60 minutes.

Prices start at $7,995 for the Zero X dirt bike, with the Zero S street model beginning at $9,995. Some models are eligible for a 10-percent Federal tax credit, and buyers in some states may be eligible for further tax breaks. All models carry a two-year limited warranty.

The updated models are on sale now through the Zero motorcycles web site. Shipments are scheduled to begin in March.

Less than an hour before you have to recharge? Who would buy these, and why?

Can't see that replacing my CRF for ice racing or my KTM for Enduro.
Nothing like being stuck in the woods with a dead battery that does not only start my bike but powers it too....
Weight is a huge concern as well.
