Angry rough idle on wrx

Does anyone else experience a rough idle in a wrx? The dealer told me that it was because of the "radical" cam.

Yes. These cars do idle a bit rough. It has to do with the boxer design. Nothing you can do about it. No big deal.

It does run a little rough.
When I was working under the hood I accidently pulled a vacuum line out and it ran really rough.
You should check all your connections.

When i first got my WRX, I thought it idled extremely rough. Apparentley I've gotten used to it.

Used to seem worse with the AC on.

try using a thinner turbo approved oil. 10w30 or 5w30? Depends where you live?

I thought the boxer design is supposed to be more balanced than other designs.

I noticed the rough idle the second day I drove my WRX! I can feel it through the seats and it seems to reverbate through the entire chassis. I mentioned it to a friend that also owns a wagon, and we started his up, and it does the same thing. It happens even when the engine is warm. The sensation is like an occasional massive ***** passes through the exhaust and some shaking afterwards.

My Type-R manual mentions something like "because of design of the high performance engine, you may experience rough idle", but I've never experienced it in that car. I haven't read through my entire Impressa manual yet, but I haven't seen any mention of rough idle.

well it could also be that the ej20 shakes like hell inside the engine bay. and while the shaking could be a more radical cam, next time, start your car and open up your hood. thats why sti engine mounts have so much of an effect.

Cams with a single profile can only be tuned for a specific rev range. On the WRX this is fairly high up. This is a GOOD THING for power, but it makes it idle a bit rougher.

Old muscle car guys used to get big lobes with radical profiles that would cause the car to practically die on idle, even with increased idle RPMs.

The Hondas get around this by having multiple cam profiles tuned to different RPM ranges. If you were to idle on the big lobe, the car would probably stall itself

The rough idle of the WRX is normal.
