Need more info.

Vir5-6 EJ207 = 5 Speed trans and R160 rear diff
Vir7-8 EJ207 = 6 Speed trans and R180 rear diff

the engine will work just fine with any hubs. with the Vir5-6 EJ207 comes with 5 speed, you can use your stock front axles, and depending on what R160 diff you may be able to use your rears.

if its a Vir7-8 EJ207 w/ 6speed, the front axles should work fine. but you will need to swap rear hubs or use a hybrid axle to use the R180 rear diff and stock 02 WRX hubs.

i just did the v7 ej207 engine on my 03 wrx, and i did drivetrain swap on 02 wrx, the problem is the rear hubs, r160 axles r way smaller. u should get sti rear hubs to make it easier. Just to make it clear this happen on the one i did, somebody i know did it witout replace hubs! lets put it this way, the worst case u will need rear hubs!

you can use an r160 3.9 rear diff and be good to go...or go with a usdm 07 sti 6-spd as it is a 1.1:1 center diff with 3.9 final drive...thus a 3.545 rear diff like your bugeye has

r160 and r180 have different flanges on the diff which can be changed or you can use an auto driveshaft (r160) or the 6-spd (r180)

now that i have an 02 bugeye that i'm looking for wiring details on a ver 8 into 02 swap...i know the ver 7 is simple.

We just did a Version 8 207 swap in my buddies 02 and everything bolted up just fine to the stock 02 drivetrain. He bought a harness because of the AVCS.

Let me join your thread and hopefully both of us could learn from the community at the same time.

My 2002 WRX is in the process of similar swap for JDM EJ20 Version 7.
A team of subaru guros will be doing the complete work, but I want to know what the community is thingking about doing such project. Is it worth doing? I would without hesitation. I like the bugeye -that's all.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...3#post33629373

I'm curious what the community is saying about such project. Please let me know your thought, suggestions, and comments. Please post your projects, pictures and links related to swap: STI, JDM EJ20 v7, DCCD, DS, AVCS, etc.

2002 WRX

Please add your comments, links, source, budget price, suggestions and comments. Is it worth doing?
Here’s the preliminary list.
STI V7 JDM EJ20 Turbo Engine
6speed-M/ACT street clutch manual transmission
Auto driveshaft/R1xx rear 3.900 ring & pinion set
DCCD (driver controlled center differential) control unit
Active Valve Control System (AVCS) – timing/wiring/programming
Turbo-back exhaust system
Brembo brake system
17'' Enkei ES Tarmac or Enkei's gold RPF1

What are the advantages or disadvantages, difference between V7 vs. V8?

Is it necessary to remove the front cat to fit turbo-header's version 7?
What is the draw back by using the stock exhaust system?
Do you guys have any suggestions (with budget in mind) for any exhaust system to work in this STI swap?

on my old setup, my Turboxs tbe setup was legit. The stock exhaust system is pretty restrictive but very quiet.

But what actually this center differential control does?
Is it just a driver control (switch) to turn on/off so the differential works automatically or manually respectively?

Thanks Noypi. Will the stock works or bolt right back on? I think the problem is the uppipe (turbo-cat) where front catalytic removal is mandatory (correct me if I'm wrong) for EJ20, but the cat back to the muffler could stay stock or optional.

Notice you have your AVCS on.....Tell me something about it. How complicated was your set up? What is this?

hey guys i am also trying to finish my swap 07 wrx engine, tranny, ecu, immobilizer, key, and full body harness. in a 03 wrx. engine and tranny are allready in the car in fact i allready drove it a few miles with the only issue that i need to swapp also the ecu and harness since the connectors for the cams are different and to activate avcs so i went ahead and bought the immobilizer and key added for very little extra money. now as i go swapping the wiring i am finding out that many connectors arent the same even when the wires are same color and all the conector for the abs pump is totally different with extra wires, so is the srs computer, now my concern is with the steering wheel, hvacs, and addapting the drive by wire pedal. if any of you guys can simplify my swap with any piece of knowledge it will be really apreciated thanks guys
