Yet it still manages to be one of the most boring sports cars ever made. That's its biggest achievement.

GT-R still weighs four thousand pounds. :-/
If the lightweight two-seat sports car is 3,250 lbs there's a problem somewhere. My four seat cheap steel wagon weighs that much... |

I'd love to see them take the fat off of a GTR.

notice I left out the word "buy"
Totally prepared for that response.I would say this thread title is misleading. The GTR certainly didn't crush the Vette. However when both are professionally driven the vette was very close. I think if our scrub azzez were to drive back to back the gap between the GTR and Vette would be much greater. |

It sure says a lot about the GT500 that it even gets compared to a cars that cost nearly twice as much. Ford is stepping up their game. It really isn't in the same league as the Z06, but it's a hell of a quick car.
I remember that review last year where the professional race driver took both the Z06 and GT500 out on the track (and this was the 2010 model with the iron block, not the 2011). The Z06 was faster but was a back-stabbing bitch if your technique wasn't dialed in perfectly. The GT500 was a bit slower but a lot more fun to drive and nowhere near as hairy to drive at the limit. |

Why isn't it being compared to the ZR1? That's a more equal comparison...

Easy. Because the z06 is much more comparable price wise to the GTR (z06 ~$74K USD vs gtr ~$89K USD vs ~111k USD for the zr1) and because they were talking "supercars under 6 figures."

and as tested the z06 had the carbon / brake package , that adds $9500 for the brakes and $4000 for the carbon package to the base price...
and the exhaust note of the GT-R screams meh |

Professionally driven by a guy who has raced AWD GT cars for the last two years. Plus the GTR has an automated dual clutch gear box, which is going to be faster than any human shifting a manual. His point is well taken that AWD inspires more confidence. AWD is more forgiving to mistakes, which in turn inspires confidence. I bet that if it was driven by a professional who had been driving a RWD race car that the Z06 would have been a few feet in front of the Nissan, even with the automatic. All that being said, I'd be happy with a used S2000 as a track toy. For me, driving pleasure is not derived in fractions of a second on a track, it is derived from the feedback a shifter and steering wheel give, the noises the car makes and the ability feel fast while staying on the track. |

All awesome cars. The GTR is amazing. I don't know why people claim they are boring and claim they rather have more driver oriented track cars. When in reality you can't even drive like race car driver, won't ever be one, and won't ever push any car like of that in the video. No one need that much feel doing highway pulls, mall cruises, and flybys. (and that's 95% of the board members here)
