Default Coolant Leak Help Please

Hey,

I woke up to a nice pool of coolant underneath my 1998 Impreza 2.5 RS. I can't quite tell what is leaking but it's seems to be near the closer to the driver's side of the water pump and not the hose that goes to the engine but the little elbow peice that's in there. Not exactly sure what that is so i'm hoping possible the gasket in there and not something more major. Seems to be wet above this as well... hoping it's not the head gasket...

See the attached photo.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

How many miles on the car?

Perhaps it's time to replace the water pump and the gasket.

i'm hoping it isn't that. They were replaced 50000 km (31000 miles) ago. Around the base of the water pump seems dry but to the side seems a bit wet. I can't tell if it may just be the gasket in that elbow and it's spraying out and up and making a huge mess or if the leak come from higher. Is the elbow simply an elbow or does it have some higher purpose?

It just connects to the lower rad hose. Maybe your hose is cracked, I would inspect the hose around the elbow there.

Hose was the first thing i checked and unfortunately the hose is dry, except from some leak from above. I wiped it dry and came back and the hose didn't having any drip just that elbow. Do you know if there is a gasket in the elbow that can go?

so i've determined it was definitely leaking from where the plastic elbow and the water pump meet. is there anyway to test and see if my water pump has failed?

just made the lovely discovery that the gasket is firmly integrated into the water pump... anyway to replace it? or is this a sure sign the water pump is pooched?

With luck it's just the thermostat gasket, but it looks to me more like your water pump is leaking externally.

Yeah i replaced the thermostat gasket and i've run it a bunch and drove it around and it seems fine. They guys at the dealer seemed sure that it would do the trick. We'll see if i get any surprises tomorrow morning. Thanks for the suggestions.
