torn between the rsr and the (formerly known as) ss.
i think i have to face the fact of the matter which is that i'm 37 with two kids and i don't track the car. plus a little extra treadwear isn't such a bad thing. are the ss really less than $60 each??? ![]() |

the SS are well known to be ****house tyres.
you get what you pay for there. the RSR however sticks like fecal matter to linen. |

Looking into getting a set of the rs-r 595's. I went through the thread and didnt see anything about road noise on these, but forgive me if someone mentioned it. Is the noise tolerable with a loud exhaust? I was also wondering how wide these run. Would I be good with a 245 on an 8.5 inch wheel? Price is looking real good on these so I hope they're a good all arounder. Thanks.

So are the SS595 the new budget performance tire these day? A few years ago it was the Sumitomo HTR ZIII, wondering how these compare?

The SS595's are very quiet, too. Quieter than the 452's on my wife's car.
I just got aligned, what a difference a day makes! I hadn't been aligned since i put Mazdaspeed struts on a year ago, lol. So far, 2 thumbs upon ss595's. |

I picked up a set of the 595 RS-R in a 235/40/17. They are currently waiting for the next autocross in 2 weeks.
They run a little wider than a Dunlop Star Spec in a 235/40/17 but not as wide as a Star Spec in a 245/40/17. Looking forward to giving these a try ![]() (Price point was a purchase decider and Uncle Scotty not hating them ) |

Found feedback and response to be better than the Star Specs too. Not sure on ultimate grip comparison, would need to run an equally worn set back to back. I can see no 245 width in a 17" being a problem for some. 235/40/17 on an 8" is almost perfect flush, just slightly pinched. |

Sorry to rain on your parade but I had the SS595's and yes they are great in rain and pretty good in the dry but Star Specs will kill them any day. What everyone seems to forget is the 595 is a series of tire - with the SS at the bottom fo the 595 line. I traded in my SS's for EVO595s and they are much better and are a better performance/$$ value IMO. The EVOs wear rating at 240 matches the SS but the EVO's sidewall is stiffer. They are about 10mm wider than advertised.

I know I asked this before, but would a 245 RS-R be comparable to a 255 of any other tire? Some are saying I should go with the 255 and roll the rear fender (which I dont mind doing), but I dont want it to be too wide. This is all on an 8.5 inch wheel, and I dont want the fitment to be flush and not look funky.

The ss595>452 would be a more direct comparison. BTW, I would've bought EVO's, but the sizing didn't work out, and they were nearly twice as expensive. |

fyi, i recently purchased a set of 245/40/18 Federal SS595 from www.onlinetires.com
despite the poor reviews i took a chance because they had the best price and they had the tires in stock. i shot emails to their customer service and received prompt emails back answering all my questions. it did take a few days to receive a tracking number but i did eventually get one. i placed my order on june 30th and received my order on july 12th. overall i had a good experience, it definitely looks like they have made some changes to the way the business is run. |

Ran a second autocross event on the rs-r. I can't say enough about these! Ran a school on Saturday, and an event on Sunday. I had a co-driver for Sunday, 16 runs total, 90 degree day. These felt the same on run 16 as on run 1. My co-driver, whom has much more experience, stated these are on the same level as the Star Specs. I tend to like them better, I like the feed back better and I feel they are more forgiving when they let go.
I think these are one of the best tires out there, regardless of price. Knowing these are almost half the price of the Star Specs, no brainer... |

i torn between which tire i should buy,
17x9 +43 daily driven/spirited driving ss595 or 595rsr(235/40 or 255/40?)currently on 255/40 starspecs so i'd be worried about the rsr's runnign too wide or tall im just worried how long the rsr's will last me |

I want to order a set of ss595s for my 08 Mazdaspeed3 with FD RX7 wheels (16x8)
The only sizes avaiable 215/55/16 or 245/50/16. Which would you suggest I get? |
