My local chapter SCCA Autox chairman ran his 135i with 255 RSR's on his stock rims and said they were great with only 20miles on them.

Quote:
Tires fit . . . game on. Tires squeeze down quite a bit when mounted . . . the Federals are maybe a millimeter or two bigger than the Kumhos once wrapped around those skinny ass rims.
It rained pretty much the whole day this past sunday so i asked how it handled in the wet

Quote:
Actually pretty good, but not sure if the car felt like it was handling better just because of less rear grip. Really need to pull that sway bar. Tires are plenty grippy: it was doing that thing that slicks do where the car sucks into the inside of the turn on constant radius stuff. Good feeling. Note this is in cold soaking wet with 20 miles on the tires.
More reasons for me to purchase as my next set of tires

Raining this morning. The 595 evos are significantly grippier.

How much wider would 255/40/17's be in the ss595's compared to lets say a Star Spec which are known to run wide.

Would they come in between a standard sized 255 and 265 in terms of width?

according to their spec sheet, the 255/40/17 is 260mm actual.

I would run neither of those sizes on the stock 8" wheel though.

Yeah I saw their spec sheet but I was wondering if it is that is not accurate.

I am on 17x9 wheels and have read 255's are suited for 9" wheels.

Their spec sheet is accurate.

I'd do the 245/40 (not sure if RSR is offered in this size though). I had ss595's in that size and they were pretty well sized on a 9" wheel.

Also fairly irrelevant on here, but that's a 205/50/15 on a 15x8 wheel. To give an idea of sizing

I just recently picked up a set of ss595's. I wanted to get the RS-r's but they were on back order. I have a little over 150 miles on them and they still feel a little squirmy.

I don't feel confident in them like I did with my Bridgestone 050A's. Hopefully this will change once the mold release compound is fully worn off. I'm running 32 psi f/r.

Check these out. http://www.federaltire.com/en/produc...ts_detail_sn=3
I would love to have these as a dedicated canyon/ track day set.

d0000000000000d.......

d000000000000000000000000d

the difference between the 'SS' and the 'RS-R' is like the difference between the chevette and the corvette

ya bought the wrong tires if ya think the 2 tires are in any way the same

they are NOT

dOOOOOOOOOOOd......... I am well aware of that...

A few days before I got a quote for the 595 RS-Rs (245/40/18) at 580$ in stock (with military discount)
When I came in with the cash they just sold the last set and they were on back order for an undisclosed amount of time... I ended up getting the SS's.

The rsr's always seem to be on backorder.
http://www.onlinetires.com/products/...g+94w+bsw.html

I would give them a call and see if they actually have them in stock before ordering. If they are backordered then expect to wait a while before you get them.

the entire federal line seems to always be on backorder....

best I've ever been able to do was to just keep calling around to different places.

Les Schwab might be a good place to start, as they might have some SOMEWHERE in the country. Last set I ordered was through them. They sourced 1 pair locally, and then had the other 2 shipped from Texas.

Getting a set of tires for the summer isnt the first thing I think about during the winter months but so true! I almost ordered a set of rsr's last spring but they weren't going to be at me door until at least mid summer.

Crap. I didn't realize they tend to be that backlogged. I'll call around tomorrow. These might have to wait until next season.

everybody makes such a big dea.....l about THEIR being stupid and not having any forethought

this kind of thing is one of the reasons i find this board so FUNNY

so many have so many problems....caused 100% by their lack of logical thought process

Looks like they have the SS595's in stock. Yes, they aren't the RSR's, but these should be nice
