Default MINI Rocketman Tipped as Name of New 80-MPG Carbon Spaceframe City Car

Quote:
BMW will call it the ‘Rocket man’, but the name ‘mini Mini’ would be more apt.

The German car maker is set to appease fans of the original 1959 Mini with its smallest 21st-century version yet of the iconic small car.
Its Mini brand will unveil the ‘Rocket man’ concept at next week’s Geneva motor show as a precursor to a potential future production model.
Mini sources told Drive the concept is 3.4 metres long, making it about 30cm shorter than the current Mini Cooper hatchback but still about 40cm longer than the original.

It will be of similar height and width to the current hatch, though, including the same tracks (distance between left and right wheels). The car’s trademark wheel-at-each-corner stance and front-wheel-drive handling will also be retained.

Drive’s insider says the Rocket man concept will feature carbon spaceframe construction, benefitting from the investment BMW is making into the lightweight material for its future MegaCity Vehicle.

Combined with an economical turbo diesel engine that’s understood to be one of BMW’s newly developed three-cylinders, the Mini concept will better fuel consumption than any hybrid – with claimed efficiency of less than 3.0 litres per 100km.

The downsized Mini will still accommodate four people, though in a 3+1 seating layout. The rear will also feature a split tailgate like the Range Rover and Ford Territory – where the upper glass section can be opened upwards separately and the lower metal section downwards.

I kinda like that the size of the car is going in the right direction. Not-so-mini Minis seem useless, especially for the price...

Dont worry it won't come to US for the following reasons:
- most American deep fried butts will be too large for this car
- it's a diesel

Oh, it'll come here, just sans diesel. This is likely the concept for the next "regular" Mini .

I imagine the entire speedo cluster is an led screen. This is a light car, not a cheap one.
