Exclamation Boy am I tired! Installed more crap in my car.

Hey Guys,
For those of you interested in the progress of my car...

I just finished installing the Vishnu Fuel Rails last night. Sweet looking kit. I just have to spend some time tuning it tonight.

I also dropped on a V.5 Grille, and STi Stainless Side Sills on the car last week. The sills look great. A nice simple thing to add to the car that really dresses it up nicely.

I'm actually planning to fly Shiv down here sometime in the next few months to have him help me tune my car. I'm going to shoot for 2 maps... one for the most fuel efficent we can get it. And one for a full out monster. Since fuel delivery is no longer a problem we can tune for a much higher boost.

However the tranny still appears to be the weak link in the system, but tuned correctly and driven responsibly I think I'll be just fine.

Here are the pics of the fuel rail install: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/Album...321&a=13138822

Damn Nick your car must be fast! Speaking of trannies what are you doing to protect the gears? anything? Specifically what clutch and gear oil are you using?

Skid:
Yep... it gets out of it's own way pretty well...

I've don't nothing specific to protect the gears, they are still stockers. No special oils. Just the standard fluid changes at the dealership.

Personally I think the chances of the oil being the deciding factor in whether or not my gears explode on day in a flash of mechanical failure are not real likely.

The gears are relativly weak from all the reports we're heard, but thankfully I've had no problems yet.

Maybe on the next major service I will switch over to synthetics.

Well the project has only gone in spurts at a time...

So I haven't done much else so far...

Next on the list is gears... but that's down the road... that's a big chunck of change I don't want to spend until I have to!

Next step is going to be flying in a specialist sometime in the next few months to help me tune the car!

Question

Is that thing formerly known as the crap 2 so hard to tune?
Maybe one of these days I have to show up to TS and we can compare hardware and software.

You going to be there this friday?

I was ->||<- this close to getting the gears done. The drivability factor stopped me.

Are you planning any type of meet while Shiv is in town?

Just a thought

I still have a smile from the ride in your car I got at the last Race Rock meet!

Cool

Good idea.

How about a Southeast, southeast Florida meet?

In about two weeks time? Maybe a little more?

hehe... thanks for the offer Xeno!

Well like I said... I'm not sure when I'll be flying him down, but it's not at least for 2-3 months.

I won't be in town this weekend. Sorry guys, flying out to NY to drive back with my GF.

I'll be around next weekend... but I dunno what kind of time I will have.

I think a meet when Shiv is down would be pretty neat, but I don't know how long he can stay... and not to be rude, but if I'm flying him down to help me tune my car... that's what we're going to do.

Maybe depending on how long he can stay for we'll see what happens. I also have interest from Alex (Imprezer) to possible come down the same time... so it might turn into a meet just yet.

The more I've read and from my own experiences I agree the tranny is a weak link. Its a twenty year old design and its beginning to show its age. I doubt the original engineers at Subaru ever imagined the horsepower and torque loads being pumped through their trannies.

With all that being said, Subaru does have a brand new tranny available in the Sti Model. I wonder how long before that tranny will begin to trickle down to where we can grab it.

It looks like you've got the motor pretty well taken care of... Shiv should be able to help with the tuning (does he have monkey toes too?), and the right foot will help determine the life of the tranny.

If I ever make it down to Florida again - I wanna ride. No, scratch that. I wanna drive.
