I have an 11 wrx with spt catback, invidia catless dp, aem CAI, perrin ebcs, cobb ap and turbotek tune to 20psi.. I also have the flutter..

Ive been reading up and if u have an adjustable wg actuater arm u can tighten it between 1.5-3 turns and it will actuallt make the spring preload a bit stiffer to keep the wG shut. People say it takes almost all the flutter away and ull actuall build boost faster. I'm not sure if we have an adj arm on our year models but i will b looking at that tomorrow to see if i can fix the flutter.if it gets rid of the noise i will check back in here to let everyone knw if there was success or if it's jst bs...

Do not touch your WG actuator arm! This fix is only true on older models. It won't fix anything on your car. Besides, WG flutter is totally, completely, 100% NORMAL. If you want there to be no flutter, you'll need to run a MBC setup.

Damn ok.. Thanks for the knowledge and reply.. I will not be doing this then.

I am hitting my target boost of 20 psi at 3500-5000 then it holds 19psi till 6k and tapers to 15 at redline.. Nothing seems to be wrong in the data logs either.

So if all those things r cool i guess there isn't a problem with the flutter besides an annoying sound

is this the noise you are hearing?

according to cobb and my tuner buddy, this is wastegate flutter and is completely normal at higher elevations. i can be solved by installing a lower wastegate duty cycle map.

First video is the wastegate opening and closing.

Second video is that throttle body - intercooler hose whistle that a bunch of the 12's and 13's have. Just have to tighten the hose or change to better clamps.

How do you like your amr tune? Did you bring it to them or is it an e tune?

I had this same problem on my 05 WRX.

This may not fit but mine was more like a surge. like the wastegate was opening slightly at WOT in the upper RPM range.

The culprit for me was running a K&N typhoon on a cobb OTS stage 2 map. It did not like the intake. When I went back to stock intake it fixed the problem.

Try going back to stock and resetting. See if that fixes ya. I always try to cover the ABC's before I get into doing crazy stuff.

2011 STI weird spool sound - YouTube

normal?

I have the same sound on my 08. I have vf 52 stage 2 with full exhaust and high flow cat, GS EBCS. I hear the same sound while under heavy acceleration, or WOT and have talked to eric minehart of TP, since I have his tune, and he said everything in the log looked great. I've just grown to accept the noise since I cannot find out the cause of it. I dont quite remember when it started happening. I would love to find out the noise and stop it from happening again.

i dont think you would see it in the logs... but i may be wrong.

i know the data from my aem failsafe showed the boost rising and then 3 little hiccups in the boost (the surge).

Compressor surge occurs off throttle.

The cha cha cha sound you are hearing under heavy load is most likely wastegate flutter and is normal.

Default assuming that we're talking about WOT and not after you let off the throttle...

The flutter is the 3 port EBCS helping the car to build boost...it is also more importantly the IWG's lack of ability to hold boost much over stock PSI so the 3 port pulses in order to hold it shut... I also read that you are running a catless DP which invites boost spiking...I would be more fearful of not hearing this flutter than I would of hearing it. Anyone who even begins to assume that this condition is bad is filling your head with nonsense... An EWG will hold boost more solidly but will still crack open to control boost from going beyond target PSI (unless something is wrong)
