Default Zurich paint sealant

Hello all,

My 2011 WRB is scheduled to be delivered 9 days from now (march 6th)

I was offered Zurich paint sealant along with the interior protection package by the dealer, but I managed to get a price for ONLY the Zurich as I'm fairly sensitive to chemicals and don't want my interior treated.

The dealer is offering me the Zurich paint sealant for $240 that comes with a 5 year paint warranty. Essentially if something is wrong with the paint they will fix it.

Did anybody get this on their car? Was it worth it? Is this just some type of dealer scam? Honestly, I'm not the type of guy who wants to wax their car every two weeks, I simply don't have the time to do that. A five year warranty for $240 seems pretty damn good to me.

You have a 5 year paint defect warranty from Subaru anyways. From the little reading I've done on Zurich shield. I say save your $240 and use it towards your own detailing products.

….while there are always going to be product claims that are deceptive and/or flat out shams, there are those instances where they turn out to be true or at least partially true. Paint sealants/treatments do exist that will last 1+ years but as with any product like this, this time can be cut short or extended based on a number of factors (i.e. environmental conditions, where the car is stored, cleaning/maintenance techniques, products you use n the finish, application of the sealant/system by the dealer, etc., etc.). Personally, I haven’t seen a product that will last 5 years on an average application but I guess you never know. Some things off the top of my head to need to be aware of however….

- I have noticed that some of these “paint protection” plans dealers will sell may actually require periodic “touch ups” (i.e. re-application of the product).

- Even if the product they apply lasts for several years, it will still be prone to scratches, marring, blemishes, etc. In other words, you’ll essentially have to live with the condition of your finish since polishing/correction will require removal of some (if not all) of any remaining product from the paint. You will definitely need to have your washing/maintenance regimen dialed in.

- Unless the condition of the paint is pristine and/or depending on how well the dealer corrects the finish, you will have to live with any blemishes that may exist prior to application. ....since there is no way at that point to correct the paint without removing the product they applied.

$240 doesn’t sound like much but if you consider some of the points I mentioned, it still may not be worth it to you even if their product did last the entire 5 years. …..just some food for thought (playing the devil’s advocate).
