Sounds like it would just be easier to buy a 205 and go that route, less run around.

Supertech has a custom piston order sheet on their website too. It is less run around to build the 2.0 or 2.5 but there are only a few issues to building the 2.2 stroker. The pistons, oil squirters, and machining for the thrust bearing.

Just make sure you know exactly what you need or you could be stuck with custom paperweights.

Lol very true. And they're expensive paper weights too.

Yes as long as its a 99 ej25D block or full phase 2(2000-up). These are the 99's were phase 2 blocks, so the crank and pistons work.

I've done 2 of these to date.

Just read the whole thread and Love it! No buddy got into specs of different forgings of Pistons (i.e. 4032, 2618, etc.). What would be good for a daily 300hp or what would be best for a 400hp monster?

Just curious!

Hello everyone. I'm going to put together a stock 2.2 EUDM phase 1 short block with heads EJ205 and my calculation is as follows:
Piston volume - 13.5cc dished
Chamber Head - 49cc
Head Gasket MLS - 0.5 mm
Piston Deck Clearance - I don't know at this time
My result for CR is 9.35:1
Is my calculation correct?
Are the pistons enough strong for 2**hp?
I am going to start with TD04L but I have TD05H too.
On the piston there aren't separate openings for the oil. Insted of them there is an entire channel. I think this channel weakens the piston.
Does the piston of turbo version have separate openings or a channel?
Thanks in advance!

@tvladev- if your deck height is 0 then you will have 9.4. What is the compression height of the piston? That will give you what your deck clearance will be when figure with rod length and stroke. You need to know deck height as that plays a large part in quench area. Def don't leave out quench when building your motor, it plays a large part and is overlooked by amature engine builders. You didn't give your piston bore size so I figured my calc with 97.5mm. Don't guess at what a value may be when calculating cr. Get all your information on part specifications and sizes before trying to figure anything.

Glad I came across this thread in a forum search. Good info here for my build this winter (2.35L stroker).

Just to clarify - I'm looking to build an ej22t for my bugeye WRX. I'm contemplating which crank to use. Is the only difference between the phase 1 and phase 2 crank the location of the main bearing?? I rather not machine my block for #5 main thrust bearing if I don't have to. I can source a phase 1 ej22t crank quick easily if need be. I don't want to run into any problems with my pistons (JE 97mm STD bore) and OEM STi forged rods with a phase 1 crank.

Please advise. Thanks.

Phase 1 22T and 22E are the same crank so that should make your search a lot easier/cheaper.

Thanks for the quick reply. After a lot of reading, I believe I have come up with my ideal build. How does the following sound:

ej22t block - stripped down, cleaned, honed, standard bore 97mm
OEM STi rods (130.5mm)
JE 97mm pistons (see http://www.jepistons.com/Catalogs/Sp...baru/ej22.aspx for specs)
ej205 heads (well ported, polished)
ej22t phase 1 crank
ACL race bearings (52mm Rod Journal Size with Thrust in #3 Position)
ARP 12mm headstud kit
Timing belt kit/
11mm STi oil pump
.023" (0.60mm) - '97-'98 EJ22E Head gasket

I did my calculations, and came up with a CR of 8.57:1. Does this seem right? I believe all my numbers are correct but if someone could double check for me that would be great

Engine #1 (EJ22T Hybrid)
INPUT ->
Bore: 97
Stroke: 75
Rod length: 130.5
Piston Dish (cc): 14.7
Piston compression height: 32.7
Compressed head gasket thickness: 0.6
Combustion Chamber Volume (cc): 52

OUTPUT ->
Cyl Volume (cc): 553.954875
Quench Volume (cc): 6.46312898
Displacement (L): 2.2158195
Piston deck clearance: 0.2746
COMPRESSION RATIO: 8.571503334
QUENCH HEIGHT: 0.8746

We have a few 2.1L builds running around with 20G, HTA FPGreen, 6266 turbos. Aside from the normal 2.5L builds; sleeved and boosted with 6266/6466/6766, I have my AVCS D25 heads, 22T long rod stroker. I'll make a thread for it soon if there is interest. Lol
