is the bore of that block going to be close to 97mm at all? That's what the chambers width are of the 255 D25 heads.

I thought that in my case with EJ25 crank & rods the EJ20 block should be bored out to 97.5mm, no?

i just don't know if there is enough meat on the EJ20 to bring it out to that size. If you sleeve the block you can go whatever bore you want.

Question regarding using phase 2 heads on a phase 1 block:
Do the coolant passages meet up exactly or just enough to work?

there is enough for flow. I ran WRX S20 heads and now WRX D25 heads. I did modify the HG for the D25 heads.

As long as you're using a '99+ EJ25 crank, it will work. Don't get suckered into a '96-'98 EJ25D 2.5L crank. It will not drop in the EJ205 block and your connecting rod selection will be few if not one.

If you have any questions in my write up from the beginning of this thread, don't hesitate to ask. There are also other very knowledgeable and experienced members here who are able to help answer any questions that I can't.

Yes the final engine displacement will be 2.1L. WRX and STi rods are the same length. You can use STi rods for more strength or simply go forged aftermarket rods made for WRX/STI if you are shooting for more power.
