HOLDEN SERIES II CRUZE
Holden has today taken the wraps off its new Australian-built Series II Cruze, bringing styling updates, wider model choices and new petrol and diesel engines.
New sports models also feature in the Series II Cruze line-up, with the new SRi and range-topping SRi-V joining the existing CD and CDX. Click here to learn more about the SRi and SRi-V.

“This is Holden’s largest engineering and manufacturing program since VE Commodore but it’s also a successful private and public partnership which shows what can be achieved when industry and government work together,” Holden Chairman and MD, Mike Devereux said today.
“Localising Cruze has allowed us to re-engineer the car for Australian drivers, with greater fuel efficiency and performance, and given our manufacturing operations the flexibility to meet the needs of the Australian market well into the future.”

Based on General Motors' Delta small-car platform, the Series II Cruze joins the Zeta-based Commodore on Holden's production line in Elizabeth, South Australia.
When the Cruze Sedan is joined by the Australian-built Cruze Hatchback later this year, Holden's Elizabeth plant will feature 51 variants in its assembly schedule - including six body styles and nine variants in left and right-hand drive.
Styling

The Series II Cruze gains a subtly restyled front end for the CD and CDX variants, with Holden's trademark trapezoidal grille and enhanced chrome highlights.
The Cruze's headlights have also been updated with new jewelled bezels, while the rear fascia gets new a subtle makeover also. New wheel designs have also been added to the line-up.
The updated Cruze Series II range is available with 10 colour choices, including Phantom, Alto Grey, Nitrate, Karma, Mirage Glow, Voodoo, Poison Ivy, Sizzle, Heron White and Red Hot.

Mechanical

The 2011 Cruze benefits from a pair of new engines, with a new 1.4 litre petrol engine joining the range for the first time, and a new-generation 2.0 litre turbodiesel bringing power and efficiency improvements over the outgoing turbodiesel.
All three engines meet the latest Euro 5 emission standards.
Petrol

The all-new turbocharged 1.4 litre iTi (intelligent turbo induction) DOHC petrol engine, equipped with variable valve timing, is standard with the new SRi and SRi-V models, and optional with the Cruze CD.
Power for the 1.4 litre engine is rated at 103kW, with 200Nm of torque available between 1850-4900rpm.
Paired with Holden's new six-speed manual transmission, the 1.4 litre engine returns fuel consumption figures of 6.4 l/100km, while the optional six-speed auto - including Active Select - lists figures of 6.9 l/100km.
The Cruze's existing 104kW/176Nm 1.8 litre ECOTEC petrol engine carries over from the Series I range, although Holden says the engine brings a number of refinements for 2011, designed to give the engine a "more lively launch feel and all-round improved driveability." Watch for TMR's review.
Matched with the five-speed manual transmission, the 1.8 petrol returns 7.0 l/100km, while the six-speed auto delivers fuel consumption figures of 7.4 litres per 100km.


Diesel

Holden's new 2.0 litre DOHC common-rail turbodiesel engine is optional with Cruze CD and CDX variants.
The new diesel engine produces 120kW and 360Nm of torque at 1750rpm, up by 10kW and 40Nm over its predecessor.
Fuel consumption for the new engine improves slightly, with the new six-speed manual transmission seeing a return of 5.6 l/100km, while the optional six-speed auto remains unchanged at 6.7 l/100km.
Pricing

Pricing for the 1.8 litre CD and CDX models remains unchanged, while models equipped with the new-generation diesel engine have increased in price by $500.
The new Cruze Series II range will be on sale in Australia from late March.

Holden has announced the addition of two new turbocharged sports models to the Australian-built 2011 Series II Cruze Sedan range, the SRi and SRi-V.
With more power, more torque, upgraded suspension and sportier styling, the Cruze SRi and SRi-V sit at the top of the local Cruze sedan range.


tyling

The new sports-focused SRi and range-topping SRi-V models bring significant styling changes to the basic Cruze shape, including unique front and rear treatments.
Up front, the sports models get an SRi-badged grille and a unique front bumper, while a rear lip spoiler, new rear bumper, sideskirts and 17-inch alloy wheels round out the rest of the exterior enhancements.
Interior



Inside, the Cruze SRi has a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, along with blue cloth trim for cars painted in Voodoo or Karma colour schemes.
The SRI-V adds leather-appointed seats and an integrated satellite navigation unit. A push-button starter is also mounted to the dashboard, left of the steering column.
Equipment

Standard equipment for the Cruze SRi includes power windows, air conditioning, auto-on headlamps and front foglamps.
The SRi-V variant adds heated front seats, keyless entry and ignition and rear parking sensors, plus a seven-inch LCD display with satellite navigation, DVD player, CD player and an internal 10GB hard drive for music storage.

Mechanical

Both the SRi and SRi-V are powered by the same all-new 1.4 litre turbocharged inline four. The engine produces 103kW at 4900rpm, and 200Nm of torque between 1850 and 4900rpm.
A new six-speed manual or six-speed tiptronic automatic are available with the 1.4 litre turbo engine, and all turbo Cruze models get electronic power steering as standard.
A Watts link has also been added to the rear torsion beam suspension, improving suspension geometry and promoting more stable handling.
Fuel economy is a claimed 6.4 l/100km for the 1.4 iTi manual, and 6.9 l/100km for the 1.4 iTi automatic.




Pricing

The Cruze SRi goes on sale in late March with a retail price of $24,490 for the manual and $26,490 for the automatic.
The range-topping SRi-V costs $27,990 with a manual transmission, and $29,990 with an automatic.
Prestige paint is a $500 extra.

Okay, be honest. Who photoshopped that front license plate in the first pic?

I think they're sharp cars for the money. doesn't quite have the 'wow, that's impressive' like the new elantra for me, but i like it still.

I wonder how many of those variants will make it stateside...And if they sell well enough for people to justify bringing others over as well as little updates as the model goes on, it might work well.

That 2.0 turbo diesel would be a great motor for the US, it would actually cause me to consider this thing "buy-able", which I wouldn't otherwise.
