it may not be much faster, but it certainly looks better. Bravo for that at least!

Sport shift looks interesting.

it seems the car is slowly getting better. I read in the press-release that they are positioning the GT as more of a sporty car now. I think they have to build the image a bit before they release a true performance model.

gimme Legacy TPH wagon!

Arrow

The front bumper certainly looks more aggressive. Me likey. I find it interesting that Subaru did another variation on the split 5-spoke wheel.

$27k is a little steep for the level of performance. Of course, I guess they're going for the luxury thing though.

Thumbs up for the Sportshift. They're going backward with the shiftgate pattern though.

It's good that I have to wait for a few years before another car. Otherwise, I'd probably run out and by a 2.5GT wagon.

I have to wonder about the price listed in the other 03GT post. It shows the GT wagon with a a sticker around $23k. What gives?

That's about right in the area$$. My sticker was 23k 5speed, no leather. They wanted 3k for leather, so that would have brought it to around 26.

Don't care for the wheels. I liked the original wheel, differentiated from the WRX wheel, and what do they do, but make them more alike!

I typed the price for the base Outback by mistake. As shown above, the 2.5GT wagon lists for $25,695 + $525 dest. I fixed the price in the orginal post. Thanks for catching the mistake.

Yep, once again we get hosed. I've heard the JDM get a paddle shifter on the steering wheel. Now that would be cool.

<<Thumbs up for the Sportshift. They're going backward with the shiftgate pattern though.>>

I'm not so crazy about the gated shifter on the automatics,(MY 2000 to 2002) I think they are a pain in the a## when you're making quick manuvers, like backing out of a driveway or parallel parking. If you want to move the shifter left and right, get a manual. I much prefer the straight automatic shift pattern from the older cars. Quicker to slide it from drive to reverse etc.

Paddle shift on the wheel would be great for Sportshift. I'm sure JDM parts will find their way here. $$$$$$$$!

I'm glad I got our 02 GT wagon, the price increase is a little steep, with no performance increase, just more "stuff" I don't want (leather, 6-disk changer). The all weather pkg would be nice in winter. Wish they had given us the JDM rear bumper too.

It is a very good sign that they changed the name back to 2.5GT (as opposed to just GT)

...why would they have to designate the engine if it was the only one available...

I hear you there, but don't they now look just like that wagon they have in other countries that is turbo charged? I forgot the name of it. Still they are not nearly as nice. My husband wants one (oh great!) due to the leather interior, better stereo, and all the new bells and whistles. I think he should get me the 2002 OBS and he can take over Chewie, that way we'd save hundreds a month, but he wants a silver car. I will work at him to come around.

Way cool! That is the first real legacy to get the VTD auto! The only other subaru to have it are the WRX and the VDC. Maybe all future subaru will use it?

Question

I like the looks and I think the "2.5 GT" emblem is more than a just casual nod to future engine/drivetrain improvement coming our way. I believe it's a clear indication of other "variants".

BTW - How would you ever get a melon launcher under that rear bumper valance? (j/K )

Seriously though, I'd like to be able to put a performance muffler with dual tips on it "and" be able to see it when it's mounted. Would you have to go JDM bumper cover from a B4/Blitzen to do that?

Br, Dale
