The engine in my 97 Legacy GT (2.5 Phase I DOHC) blew last week.
I was just driving down the highway, heard a click-click-click, CEL, Temp Gauge shot up, and then before I could pull over, "POW"... Not sure if this had anything to do with the head gaskets, but I do know that something went through the block (probably a piston). Engine had about 97000km (60000miles). ![]() The complete engine is coming out, so I just wanted to gauge interest in any of the stock engine parts (MAF, ECU, pulleys, alternator, whatever else... etc...). Chris.

How the heck? You must have been surprised when you found the hole!
When will the engine be out of the car? |

If you'd be willing to let it go real cheap, I'd be interested in taking the intake manifold and perhaps the throttle body off your hands. I'm interested in doing some experimentation to try to create a better intake.

Im in the same boat, Id like a couple of random parts to play with but only at a decent price.
Id bet you would get good money selling the common items on ebay like: Alternator AC pump Stearing Pump MAF Id like to get an idea of how much you would take for the coil pack. Id like to cut one up. Will you be removing the air box as well? |

Sorry 'bout the engine. Good luck with your EJ20 swap...
I think I may be smelling a bit-o' coolant leakage in my engine. I'm hoping it's not the head gasket. but if it is, my extended warranty will take care if it and i'll throw in some cams while it's open. ![]() |

It's a ****ey job but someone has to do it.
Besides that, who else is going to clean up the scraps from a blown engine? BTW Cajual - that hole looks like it might have "removed" any evidence that you were running a Phase I block. If you're not going with an EJ20 swap, try to at least replace the block with a Phase II if you can find one that will work for you. Br, Dale |

Hey Pat, and anybody else that's interested.
I still have the DOHC engine that was taken out of my car after the headgaskets incident last year. It's just sitting in Columbia, MD collecting dust . . . doesn't have any of the peripheral components (alt, ps pump, condenser) but it does have the intake manifold, SOHC coil pack, throttle body, heads . . . If anyone wants to head down here to pick up a few things . . . I'll be VERY reasonable with prices. I know my mechanic wouldn't mind if that thing were out of his garage. Jason |

Hmmm, that's pretty tempting, Jason. I might have to head down to MD one of these weekends - visit some of my friends in Annapolis, and scavenge some parts from your engine.
