I hope there is still a 6 speed manual option, though judging from that short blurb, it looks like it may be auto only.

The body lines are all wrong, same with the interior.....

Seriously, WTF kind of trailer is that? Could have been a damn Honda accord speeding through there and no one would know the difference.

There probably won't be one. If you want a manual M sedan, then the M3 is the way to go. Personally I love manual transmissions, but I just don't see one on the new M5 as a good idea these days, given its size and demographic.

Well they lost me - I bought the E60 when it first came out - given this news, I will not be buying the F10.

If it looked like this:

then that would be interesting.

However, it'll more likely be this:

which is blahhhhhhh.

Either way, I'm sure it'll go like stink and have a very boring interior like all other BMW products.

Why, because their executive sedan has an automatic?

Let's be honest -- it's not like many people were taking them to tracks anyway, unlike M3s.

I honestly see more current M5s than M3s on a daily basis going to work and back, though at every event I've ever been at, I've never seen an M5 there, though I've seen plenty of M3s.

Their executive sedan is the 7 series. You don't see me caring about the tranny in that car do you?

I honestly see more m3's than m5's, but what does that prove?

I am among those that will not buy a turbo M car... So they have lost their way. No manual, no 8.5k redline, no care.

Actually, the 5-Series is their executive sedan. It's a class of automobile that includes the E-Class, A6, etc. The 7-Series (and S-Class, A8, etc.) are classified as "luxury class."

Assuming you're talking about seeing them on the track, it proves that both you and I see M3s being used for racing purposes more than M5s. Assuming that this isn't rare (and I bet it isn't), it just goes to show that they're mostly being used for daily driving with virtually zero track time. No need for the "joy" of shifting gears yourself or the quickest automated manual transmission (whether SMG or dual-clutch) given its target demographic and competition.

Then you may want to try out this website: http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/content/cpo/default.aspx

It's pretty ignorant to just disregard it because it has forced induction and a redline that isn't sky-high anymore. Who knows, maybe they'll still be able to get it to reach 8000 rpm, which is still pretty high. BMW might have surrendered to forced induction, but they're not going to allow their M brand to be completed diluted of driving experience.

They must go FI to keep up with global mandates for better fuel economy and lower emissions. That's just the way it is.

Listen, like what you want to. But I was a fan of BMW for many years because of the IDEAL that they upheld in their performance cars. Driver involvement and chassis and engine response. Lose that and I'm outta there.

But I'm sure this thing is going to be a highway pulling MONSTER. It will do what its clientele want it to do, and do it well I'd imagine. BMW still is one sick ass engineering firm.

**** semantics. It's a mid sized sport sedan. I think BMW will put a manual in it.

And this guy is probably right:

Yep, agreed.

Probably a convincing argument to pick up an E60 M, maybe with a manual if you could find one...they are dirt cheap now. They are still a decent drive.

I'm surprised about some of the responses about the M5 going FI. I love FI engines. When reading that the new TT V8 is going to produce 550HP, I read that as 600-700HP+ with just a reflash. A 4 door sedan giving the likes of a Lamboghini or Ferrari a run for their money at a fraction of the price? Damn.

I'd reply w the arguement that if true car lovers want to do something to rectify this situatio, they need to work a little harder to become part of the target market, and earn a LOT more money to snap up these cars and out of the hands of said douchebags. Then demand the features they want to steer BMW back on the correct path.

Hey I did my part - bought an E60 5 years ago - and took 70% depreciation because 'Mericans couldn't handle the gearbox or the MPG. I love the violent gearbox - chirping 4th at 100mph, and 11 MPG doesn't bother me as long as I have my 8400 RPM scream. It could be less muted in the steering and of course smaller/lighter, but it's the best compromise I could find at the time, and IMHO represents the best used car value out there right now for drivers who need 4-doors. Now the F10 could have been the E60 with some E39 personality blended back in, but they went way ghey instead - bigger, heavier, lower redline, and a slushbox.

But you haven't even driven the car, let alone seen it or know its specs. A lot of people thought that the twin-turbo 3.0-liter was going to suck, but it's not bad at all. It pulls pretty hard and has hardly any lag for a turbocharged car. I was pretty surprised the first time I rode in one.

I don't get how you equate the new M5 having a twin-turbo V-8 (more powerful in every way than the outgoing NA V-10) and an 8-speed automatic transmission to its chassis response suddenly being lost in the wilderness.

That's for sure. Not that it made them better cars, but the AMG Benzes (particularly the 55s and 65s) were known for their ridiculous pulling power. I bet BMW would also like to claw back some territory in that aspect.

It isn't semantics; that's just what that particular class is called. Don't get me wrong -- I'd LIKE to see a manual in it.

A lot of sites have said the M5 will have a Manual Option still. What are you guys reading? The manual and auto will be available as options.
