I don't see why not, it is a cat pipe and it says for impreza matching your year range

just have an exhast shop weld in the rear o2 bung if there isn't one.

Yes, the 02 has an o2 after the cat it is just after the last bend before the midpipe & should be cocked slightly toward the drivers side of the car. just lay down beside your drivers side of your car & look.

I thought they changed the cat section in 02 so there was 2 cats? my 04 is had 2 cats and a 90 degree bend where it meet the headers. I would look around to verify that is is right. That cat looks like the pre 01's. I may be wrong but i thought they changed it. It's not uncommon that they are wrong. I saw a set of headers today for a 2.5rs that said they fit the wrx and sti and any 2.5 subaru engine.

93-05 2.5rs have the same cat section with 2 cats and a 90 degree bend. Going by their picture it is wrong but maybe that is a a stock image and not the actual product. I would call and check before ordering.

If your stock cat pipe is two seperate sections (flanged in between pre-cat and second cat), that cat posted will work. It does not replace the first cat, only the second one. My cat pipe is only one piece and each of the individual cats cannot be seperated, so it would not work for my car. I would not recommend buying a new cat pipe from the dealer, it's around $550.

OP, I have an 02 so before you go chasing rabbit trails from members with other year cars..... just lay down beside your car & look at the pipe. It'll be the same as mine & it goes:
Header - Cat pipe (front o2 & rear o2) - Midpipe - Axleback

Your cat pipe should look the same as the one pictured (bend wise) & that pipe will fit. However, I do not see the rear o2 bung on that pic. To get an idea of the year range & pipe you are looking for search MS3 HFC on rs25dotcom. I just put that pipe on mine last week. same bends as teh one you linked.

^ did you have a 90 degree bend between the first cat and your header? I can't imagine they would change the cat section between 02 and 04 then again in 06 when they went to the el header. The only differnece i know of is the 2.2 with the single port.

ok i just looked up under neath and it looks like they were replaced at one time....
there are 2 cats, one hooks to the headers, and its very little ?, the 2nd one looks like a reg cat...could it be the o2 sensors or could it be both the cat and 02's

A bad rear O2 can cause a problem that would trigger that code (catalyst efficiency code) but if performance seems the same as always and fuel mileage has not changed the front O2 sensor is less likely to be the problem causer. If the front O2 has more than 100k miles, replacing it is due anyway.

The O2 in (after) the second cat is just for monitoring the cat efficiency on 04 and earlier imprezas. I was referring to the first O2 sensor that senses mixture and gives the ecu data to control the EFI system. I was a little unclear so I have edited accordingly.

the routing of the 2002 cat pipe looks identicle to the picture linked. there's an o2 pre cat & an o2 post cat. hard to believe maybe but it's true. I don't understand what the misunderstanding is though as it's supposed to be the same as the 98-05.

That's not what i'm talking about, they all with have a pre and post O2 but the picture is wrong. It is not a direct fit, i was questioning you because you kept telling him it will work. It doesn't matter if the routing looks to be the same, where it connects to the header it's facing the wrong direction and it needs a 90 bend. Here is a picture of a stock cat section on top, notice the difference.

you're right but I would check with them. that pic might not be actual. if it is then they need to take down that ad. sorry, i was not catching what you meant without the visual. What I was getting at though is true. If you find one that is really made to fit 98-05..... it will fit your 02. OP go look at the MS3 HFC. That's another angle/view of the pipe you need.
