Newbie here. Any reputable repair shops in north Iowa / Mason City area? Nearest dealer is in Des Moines, but I don't necessarily trust dealer service shops anyway.

Hey guys does anyone know of a good tuner in the cedar rapids ia city area?? I want to get my new purchase checked out! Preferably a dyno tuner as I also like to know what kind if power I'm making with everything the previous owner did.

I do open source tuning here is Des Moines. I've done tunes for a lot of guys in the club now. We don't have a dyno here yet but one is in the works and should be ready soon. In the meantime, I use some software and logging to estimate power and its fairly accurate.

I'd be happy to take a look free of charge if you end up in Des Moines. I can see how the exiting tune looks (assuming its not a locked or a Cobb tune). I can also run some logs to see how things look. If you need/want a re-tune, my rates are very reasonable.

Oh man, not another anti-Facebook person, we already have a couple of those on here.

For better or worse, when our club got its "Iowa Subaru Club" Facebook page, the usage of this thread dropped off significantly. To keep up on club news, events, happenings, etc, the Facebook page is pretty valuable.

It's not an anti Facebook thing, it's a we had a cyber stalker going after my wife thing and let's just say police and things and just bad stuff lol so Facebook is a no go in this house which sadly means I miss out on so much unless someone posts here :/

We have a couple of people who only use FB to keep an eye on the club, complete with fake names and whatnot.

I have driven 2 cars tuned by Graham and they both pulled like mules all the way to redline!

Hey guys wanted to give some heads up, me and some buddies will be at the cedar falls raceway on Sept. 22nd for the midnight mania race night and I'd love to see some other subies out there! Gates open at 8pm races are 9pm-1am $20 to race $8 to watch

I'm itching to unleash my new 2005 sti and see what it's running! Even if your not into racing come hang out with us in the pits it will be a great time!

Where can I get 93 octane in the DM area? I know of Murphy's in Altoona and have heard there is some up in Ames, but are there any other places around Des Moines to get 93?

There's talk that the BP stations are carrying 93 now, even though it's labeled as 91 on the pump. Inside it's listed as 93. I filled up at the BP on 22nd and University a few weeks back and I had quite a bit of off-throttle popping and fire. I assume that was due to the extra octane.

They've also bumped the price up, they used to sell premium at the same price as everyone else, now it's $0.10 more - which would make sense if it's 93.

Ed mentioned this rumor to me. It seems risky to me since they "should" have 93, but can put 91 in the tanks since that is what is advertised. If I am running low and can't make it to a station with 93, I'll probably go to BP and fill up hoping it is 93 they have in the tanks. However, I'd rather not rely on the rumor and try to hopefully find other legitimate 93 octane if possible.

Conoco on 419 Lincoln Way, Ames, IA 50010, (515) 232-0046 had 93 when I use to live up there. When I travel to Des Moines I always just fill up with Sunoco 100 octane in Ankeny at SCS Fabrication.

I think my tune is too aggressive on Murphy's 93 in Altoona. I was getting knock with that fuel. Ever since that one fill up I haven't been back. The extra cost for Sunoco 100 is well worth it.

Is it honestly easier to find e85 or 93 octane in Des Moines? I wouldn't dare try to sway Tony one way or the other, just wondering what your experiences are.

Its WAY easier to find E85. Many of the Kum and Go locations have it and there are a couple Dahl's fuel stations that carry it as well. I have at least 5 E85 stations in a 5 mile radius of me vs having to drive to Altoona if I wanted to run 93.

With proper planning and/or a 5 gallon fuel can, I believe you can get about anywhere in the country on E85.

I Think the same holds true up here in North Iowa. I can think of half a dozen stations with E-85 but it would be though to come up with a 93 station. (Mason City area)

DECK PLATE!

Looking to do have some machine work done on my 2.0 block. Does anyone know the easiest way to get a hold of a deck plate? I'd rather not pay a machine shop to build me one. Either that or buy one for a machine shop and try to talk them into a deal.

If anyone's out there that looks at this and not FB let me know!!
