Of course we should still have another meat. I don't know about others, but I already feel like one meet per month isn't enough! The more the better!

Like Kristi said, Bennigans might be a good idea. We could get that banquet room they have in the back maybe? Smokey D's BBQ has a nice banquet room but their parking is terrible. They do setup a buffet with a couple meats, buns and a couple sides. With this you'd really have to get a solid head count and maybe consider taking money up front because you have to figure out how much food to buy. Something along these lines might be best for a large group, but harder to coordinate.

It obviously going to be mainly Subarus but I think we should certainly "host" other makes. We should be able to get some pretty nice cars to come out. I'll get in touch with everyone I know with nice cars.

This would be fun but I with so many people, including people that don't know our group as well, it might be hard to organize a specific route. Instead it might be best to just pick a few cool places and have everyone travel there at their own pace. The spillway parking lot and big creek's parking lot are places that come to mind.

All great ideas! I don't know about openly invinting JDMCity. Those honda guys in large groups can be brutal :P.

After I kind of screwed up the Subar-Ba-Cruise for a dozen people last year, maybe the "checkpoint" cruise is a way better idea.

I love the spillway parking lot -- i hope it isn't too common meeting place for you guys. There is also the big parking lot around Saylorville Lake that DMVR used to use for autox.

Good point... an open invite might not be a good idea and might attract some characters we don't want around.

Maybe a better idea would just be to have group members personally extend invites to people they know who have nice cars and can act responsibly.

I agree 100%. That was the idea last year when DSM guy Kyle Robbins invited Ed and Johnny to the meet, and it could not have been better!

I like the idea of a checkpoint cruise! It's neat seeing a huge line of similar cars though...

A huge open invite meet would be ok if you can do it somewhere that won't mind people burning out all night. Think local farm field or something, haha. Otherwise a group invite thing would be really smart.

Except for the GSX guy driving down the shoulder on 35 for a couple of miles.

Stumbled across this thread and read that the owner of this car is somewhere in Iowa.

Anyone here know who this is? If he's anywhere close we need to get him to the meat! I wanna see this car.

Haha - I'm guessing he could care less about warranty. This STi sounds like his DD/winter beater.

Wonder if this is the black one that was at Ramsey for our show?

Hey guys, got a stereo question for you. I am really not overly pleased with the OEM Subaru stereo in my car. It sounds OK when playing the iPod and like the iPod location and controlling through the head unit, but the Stereo (AM/FM) sound is complete crap in this thing.

So, looking for some input on options out there these days, especially something that will fit properly in the OEM head unit location. Thinking I will start with just the head unit and go from there. Need something that will work with the iPod cable so I can keep that where it is and preferably something that will work with the OEM speakers (6 total in the doors and the OEM 8" sub under the seat). Next step would be to replace the OEM door speakers with something better and hope whatever I got could keep a tweeter in the OEM location like there is now.

Really looking for good sound quality, not all muddy sounding like the stock setup. Thoughts? Input? Pictures?

Your best bet is to start with the head unit. It is silly to drive aftermarket speakers with a way underpowered head unit. Next, you might as well spend the most you can on said headunit. Any upgrades down the road should be able to work with that unit (amps, XM, subs, bluetooth, etc) You may want to think about navigation as well..

I searched long and hard for head units, I found the Kenwood Excelon 9140. Even to date, it still has more EQ and audio options than many other double-din touchscreens on the market, even the newest Kenwood model isn't any better, in fact, it is slower. Most of the trouble I had was looking at $400-$1000 head units, that had silly 3 band EQ's. Come to find out, that much adjustability was a little silly, since the speakers i bought reproduce very accuratly and my EQ is basically set flat. (Set to a mobile RTA) Although, your OEM speakers will be different.

My 2 cents is to go to Ford and Garland downtown. Nowhere else in central Iowa carries more headunits in stock and on display, not to mention several high end options. Everyone there knows about everything they have and have been in the business for a long time. Prices aren't what you will find online, but thats what you will pay for service and continuing help. Consider this over best buy or american.

If you need any other help, or want shopping help/demos, let me know!

Edit: I used silly a lot.

Ford & Garland is about all that is left any more. Steve is a nice guy and was a long time friend of my Dad's back in the day. Got work off next week to enjoy Spring Break, so might have to get down there one day and check things out. And I am all for using local businesses, even if pricing is higher. Would rather support local when I can (which is why I use Traviss A/V for all my A/V needs!).

Thanks for the input, Scott! I will see what they have. Might have to bug Rob for one of his hatch boxes and ditch the stock 8" under the seat, too...

Just stumbled across this. Thought you might like to see.

I'll thirdify Ford and Garland. I thought their prices were pretty good on a lot of stuff. And the knowledge and stock makes up for a lot!

Not bad. Didn't think about DVD player. Setup a by-pass and Lizzie could try to watch movies up there when we are on the road now and then. And I know it can be done with a module, but want to try and keep my steering wheel controls, too.

All new models (except pioneer) can be simply grounded so you can use DVD or navigation while in motion.
