Starting with the 13th would it be ok If I brought my wife? If she cant then it will be my son he is 14 and is dead set on finding himself a 2.5rs... before he is 16. Out of all the vehicles I have ever had the WRX is by far his favorite. |

you would start as an oficer, which is more pay. It realy depends on what field you go into. Hell man go talk to a rectuter just dont agree to ANYTHING unless it is on psper the way you want it. I was figuring out what I would make per houre if we recieved hourly wages and I was very surprised. $35 an hour. Which includeds what I would pay for a cheap crapy health care. Easyest first carear you could have is in the Air force.
shoot me a pm and next time im in my office i can grab some numbers for you. |

Sorry to hear that man.....
Honestly, I did a year in Korea (Kunsan) 2000-2001.... it was the best year of my life. Don't listen to the people that say it sucks... they are likely the closet freaks that sit in their room all year, play their PS3, and jerk off.... and then bitch about how there is nothing to do. Get out, take some of the free/cheap trips, see the country. If you're married..... take your full mid-tour.... and budget to fly her out once in the first half, and again in the 2nd half..... that will save your marriage.... I promise. If you're single.... start drinking heavily now so you won't look stupid when you get there by getting out-drank by a 21 year old girl with the alcohol tolerance of a 400lb biker ![]() And do not...... under any circumstances..... fall victim (or even worse, marry) a juicy girl. Play, have your fun, but if you come back married to a juicy girl, you deserve the miserable life that will follow you - LOL ... and get your ass in school. I've been in almost 17 years..... and I'm working on my Master's degree. But I waited till I hit 14 years to get off my ass and do something. Korea is the PERFECT opportunity to leave with a stripe, and a degree. Last edited by ninefourteener; 03-08-2011 at 08:33 AM. |

But, I do remember volunteering to help out at the local orphanage was actually really cool, and didn't require getting drunk. I also put together a band while I was there. Do you play an instrument? Long story short... find SOMETHING to keep yourself busy, and you'll have a great year.... I promise. |

Yeah I started out not drinking. The year before I went to korea I was training muay Thai and bjj. And all the guys I was hanging out with didn't drink so it was easy not too. Me personally i loves to drink. But I didn't my wife was air force and her first base was kunsan so she knows what goes on over there. So I figured by not drinking it would comfort her. We I got to Korea and was doing pretty good for a few months. I got into bjj at the gym and things were good. Then I started drinking here and there and it was over lol. So the last 8 months of my tour was your typical going out and partying a lot. But like I said it was fun. I'm home now and more civilized lol. Definitely go on trips we went a few baseball games in seoul. If you like baseball it's a must. They are crazy about it over there. And you have to go to the dmz Have fun it's a great experience.

You will hear that Osan is better - wrong.
There is more to do at Osan, more shopping, more bars and clubs, etc. But, it's just like a "regular" base.... meaning once you are done working, you go hame and forget everything. Kunsan is much smaller, everyone knows one another, and once work is over, you hang out with the people you work with. It's a much closer community, and makes the year much easier to deal with. Plus, you can always take a $20 bus trip up to Osan over a weekend, which keeps it "fun". The guys that are stationed there? Get bored of it in a month, and then the rest of their year is spent trying to figure out what to do. You got the better of the two assignments. The only downside? The exercises are tougher, and often more frequent. Baseball games, bus trips, the DMZ, Seoul, local orphanages, local English teaching opportunities, Kunsan city shopping, trips to Jon-Ju city (1.5 hrs away).... all very good ideas of stuff to do for the non-drinking type. Don't be afraid of A-town... especially during the day, great seamstresses can make you anything you want, chjeap massages (legitimate ones) and fantastic food. At night?? Yea... hookers and booze - LOL I spent a year at Kunsan 2000-2001.... and then I was there again teaching a class for 2 weeks last year. The facilities are MUCH better now, full food court, better BX, better transportation downtown. You'll love it man... I know you will. EDIT: A little tidbit of info that most people don't know: You can't drive on base unless you are a MSgt. .... or unless you are an headquarters-level instructor that is TDY for ACC/HQ teaching a class there, and has a rental car (ahem) ![]() Nevertheless, there is nothing saying that you can't rent a car and drive OFF-BASE. All you need is an international driving permit, available at any AAA office for $15 plus two passport type photos. Car rentals are CHEAP in Korea, and you can drive anywhere you want on the weekends (I took a trip to Jon-Ju over the weekend I was TDY there). ^^^ I wish I would have had that info when I was there in 2000-2001. Just some advice that might come in handy. (just watch out for speed cameras - LOL) Last edited by ninefourteener; 03-11-2011 at 01:21 PM. |
