Default Non AVCS motor on AVCS ECU

Here's the situation:
My friend is pretty sure he just popped his no. 4 ring land in his 04 STi. Compression is 90 vs 135 in other cylinders. Blowing smoke, general bad motor stuff. Upon removal, he checked the turbo (GT3076R), which sounded like the bearings were made of gravel. So he's going to need a motor and a turbo rebuild at the least. We just did the timing belt last week (unrelated to failure) and noticed some oil coming out of the driver side intake cam, so he probably will need to get that squared away too.

Luckily (maybe) for him, another one of our friends has a fully built long block that he yanked from his car that got totaled and he's selling it relatively cheap. The only issue is that this new long block didn't have AVCS because he was using a hydra ems with it.

I have read about 100 threads of making non AVCS cars go to AVCS. Any ideas what challenges we'll face going the other way? Can we just block off the AVCS oil lines, unplug the solenoids, and disable it in the map or are we going to be ripping the wire harness apart and changing the cam position sensors and all that mess?

We will be rebuilding his long block eventually, we just need a quick and inexpensive fix - which if this doesn't work, may be buying a second car.
