Default More Details on U.S.-Spec 2012 Audi TT RS:

http://blog.caranddriver.com/more-de...ed-around-60k/

Quote:
Last fall, after an outcry from enthusiasts, Audi confirmed it would bring its top-spec TT coupe to the U.S. But so far, we’ve heard little about what content our version of the TT RS will have. We cornered an Audi spokesperson at the 2011 Chicago auto show, where the TT RS made its quiet U.S. debut, and forced them to cough up some details. (Okay, it was a little easier than that.)

The European version that we sampled almost two years ago made 340 hp from its turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine. Much to our surprise and thrill, Audi says it’s pushing for U.S. cars to make about 20 more ponies for a total of around 360 hp. We asked where the extra power is coming from and were told it’s mainly from ECU tuning, so presumably the Euro cars could be updated as well. Our RS will also come equipped only with a six-speed manual transmission, and little else is changed from the overseas edition. We won’t, however, be getting the available Recaro seats. No big surprise there.

Only a few options will be offered on the limited run of less than 1000 cars. As of now, an exterior package featuring silver accents on the lower front and rear valance (matching the mirror caps) is planned, as is a Titanium pack bundling a blacked-out grille and trim with titanium-colored wheels, much like what is currently available on the A4, A5, S4, and S5. A sport exhaust option will provide a rowdier note from that already sweet sounding five. Those not in favor of the RS’s rear spoiler can opt for a factory delete.

The TT RS coupe will arrive by the end of this summer as a 2012 model. Like many of these details, pricing is yet to be finalized, but expect to pay a base price “in the low-$60K range,” that is if you can get your hands on one.

Seems pretty decent, with the amazing situation of a European car being released in the US with more power/performance than its Euro counterpart.

And I wish people would get over the obsession with Recaro seats. A good seat is a good seat, regardless who's name is or is not stitched into them. You want bling, put on 22" spinners and a carbon fiber gas cap..........

tell that to any sti owner...it has nothing to do with the name, it has to do with the fit of the seat. usdm sti seats are garbage. edm and jdm sti seats? recaros that actually hold you in place.

That is what I said........The old bugeye seats were great and did not have a name stitched on them and were not part of a special package or option that cost more $$$.

we all agree there. we wouldn't ask for factory recaros if the 04+ impreza seats fit like the bugeye. i wouldn't have bought my jdm sti seats if the usdm sti seats fit more like the bugeye seats.

Agreed.

I should love this car, but it is far too rich for my blood.

I wonder how much it will depreciate.

And I wouldn't mind seeing pictures of it in Sepang Blue.

But if I had the money for a new one of these... I wonder how big or small of a financial reach it would be to find a used R8 4.2 6-speed.

Man what a tough crowd, especially considering no one here has actually driven a TT RS.

^^^^^ Some objects have an easily-perceived, intrinsic value.

Other than being declared as "special," this car simply doesn't have enough "special" going for it to justify the price.

And that looks like it's going to be right around $60k. At least there isn't likely to be a crazy options list like with Porsche where they clip you for just about anything.

With just a few clicks on the base Cayman options list, you end up over $60k.

BTW, just what is a "InnovativeViPEC ATP3076 built 2.5 sleeper"? I'd guess that the 2.5 is a flat four but beyond that... ?

With a little investigation, you'd figure it out.

It must be comforting for you to know that someone can look at your sig and immediately identify your car as an overpriced Golf.

Agreed.

At that price point level, I would buy the purer Porsche, and spend a couple of grand on a used beater subaru, or something to get around in the snow, and leave the Porsche nice and cozy in the garage on crappy days.

You don't know what I paid. Got a nice price because I'm on the "Audi Sucker List" which put the car well below invoice. I also skipped any options. The only option will be a visit to the local APR tuner after I've got a thousand miles on the car. That won't bring it up to ATP3076 levels but the 1/4 mile time should be in the mid to high 12s.

Oh, and my med degree came from more traditional sources
