Talking So... Is this EJ18 a dual port or what?

Is this proof that the EJ18 on my car is a dual port ala EJ25, or am I nuts?

i am pretty sure the late 1.8's were dual port, i did a motor not too long ago but didn't pay any attention. Maybe i'll ask the guy to take a look at the old block.

yeah your exhaust ports are the dual port design, like the older EJ22's, and the EJ25's.

Guess so, but does it really matter? This means you could probably slap on some nice headers for, oh, 112 HP? I'd agree with you, though. I've had the exhaust off my car MANY times and I'm 99.9% sure there's a separate port for each cylinder.

hey now, you can get a reasonable ammount of power out of our engines, provided you're *realistic* in your expectations, i.e. no 100hp/liter output. i'm up to ~110ps at the wheels...which should shake out to about mid-130's at the flywheel...

of course by this point, i could have just stuck a 2.2 in the car, but oh well...all of it will carry over if i decide to swap an engine.

I have similar exhaust port design.

Actually posted to ask you RaceCarRiot about your setup. You don't happen to have cams made for your car?

I have even a bit earlier model of EJ18 and the low end torque (power) is enormouos - I drive on 5th gear when going 40 km/h (25mph) - compared to the maximum hp: the cams are way too mild.

Thank you.

nope, no cams... cams would be nice if they existed.

just an intake/exhaust/pulleys/chip setup. works fine for me...i've raced it against my friend's brighton project car in quite a few traffic light skirmishes, with a 2.2L swap (plus intake/exhaust), and with the B4 EJ20 swap (handicapped, running 8-9psi)...from a standing start (for me, anyways, since i'm tranny friendly™) we'd always end up pretty much side by side up until about 65-70.

plenty of power down low, but there just isn't enough up top to pull it through the upper gears. *sigh* one day this will all change...but for now it's fun watching something like a celica behind you buzz all the way up through first gear, at which point i'm lugging along in 3rd, and still pulling away...

mmm...so pretty much any RS header fits, provided we have the dual port heads...i must check this out on my car...someone keeps tempting me with the borlas on their legacy GT...sounds ever so nice...

Ive known this for some time, THat is why ive been confused when people tried to tell me it is single port on my car. I do not know the differances between legacy 2.5 GT and Impreza 2.5 RS manifolds but I have a 2.5 gt exhaust manifold and took off mine to compare and found that they are the exact same piece. All flanges are the same, All diameters, They are the same piece. The only benefit i had of swapping manifolds was that my Ls was all rusty and the 2.5L was nice and shiney. So Yes THere are 2 exhaust ports per head on newer model EJ18s, making 4 total
