TOKYO (AP) - Japan's meteorological agency says a 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit the country Friday afternoon.

The quake hit near the east coast of Honshu and rattled buildings in Tokyo. The Japanese weather agency warns of tsunami as high as 10 feet (3 meters) hitting parts of the country.

Central Coast News Chief Meteorologist Norm Hoffmann said there's no danger of a tsunami crossing the Pacific and hitting the Central Coast.

USGS has it listed as an 8.8.

I have a few friends stationed out there, they're fine from what I can tell from their facebooks. I'm trying to message them now.

JMA registered it as a 7.9. It lasted about 3 minutes. We had a few Standing shelf units fall over and everyone is still pretty seasick. Still feeling aftershocks.

The shot of all the cars under water was pretty dramatic.

I hope this is the worst of it, a small building fire and some property damage at most.

Back in 200..1ish, I watched the road ripple in front of me like it was liquid during a quake, and I instantly felt motion sickness. I never get motion sickness, either. Ever.
