Default Any motorcycle trackday riders out there?

I'm getting ready to ride n race. I'm excited to find out about Palmer Motorsport park in Palmer mass. It looks sweet. Anybody on here looking to get on the track or already ride track days? I'm glad to show a few pointers and or take a few.

Yeah I hit it 3 times end of last year, pretty fun. Not sure what to think about Palmer yet.

I saw a pre construction pic and it looks legit. Hopefully way more run off than Thompson. Only 1:34 from me. I hope it rocks. Tony's is doing a few days there.

Was just talking to my gf this morning about how I'd like to start doing track days this year. Glad to see fellow Subi fans also enjoying motorcycles.

I've done many a track day. Mostly Loudon and NJMP. I'm going to try NYST this yr. For a tip, find a coach and have him show you the lines, Go slow after lunch...you need a few laps to get up to pre lunch speed.

Nyst is fun as hell! Cool elevation change very fast front straight. Can't wait to ride it reversed.

I wanna make it to a race at Njmp this year to see how quick those guys are. The beach traffic keeps me at loudon and nyst. Much easier drive for us in CT

New rider here, will probably attend a few track days (Thompson/Palmer/NHMS) this summer once I feel confident. Already purchased a one-piece suit and back protector, just need some gauntlets. Will most likely be riding with Tony's Track Days.

Tony's can get crowded. Penguin is great for beginners and fishtail does a great lunch. Talk to coaches early to get a quick pointer on body position after you do a few sessions to get the track memorized. Go with a plan to work on one thing at a time. Don't just ride. You will build confidence quickly if you start SLOW and work on small skills/goals.

Try a few trackday providers to see what's out there and which you prefer. Team pro motion is good too.

My Alpinestar sp2's took some good old fashioned abuse. I had a carbon fiber knuckle dent in and didn't know til later and no broken or rashed hands. You can spend more but for $100 it has my vote. It fit my hands better than the other options at cycle gear. The euro brands run a bit tight

I went to one Fishtail event and will never go back. Most of my track days are with TTD.

If you aren't sure of your skills or just want to get better, take day 1 and day 2 of the Lee Parks Total Control Advanced Rider course.

Penguin is special in that you can ride one day, enter a practice race the next, and get your novice license.

Would my 250 CBR hold up on track? I've been anxiously eyeing the KTM rc390 but after a few calls around I'm not sure if that's a reality..

I've done a few through TTD and Boston Moto at Loudon. Absolute blast. Had a nice high side on my first day. Call it a lesson in throttle control... Lol. No bike this year unfortunately. :/

I rode a ninja 250 at thunder hill in willows CA. Holy cow what a blast! Not much risk of breaking traction with the rear tire so confidence is high. You learn corner speed on a bike like that and how to keep momentum. The super lightweight class is a lot of fun. It's cheaper than any ticket you'll get so I recommend a try.

Awesome thank you!

I actually got a call from the local dealership yesterday offering a new 2014 ninja 300 ABS OTD for $1,500 after trading in my 2013 CBR250 (non-abs).
Also offered a new R3 (no ABS) for only $500 more OTD. Decisions decisions.

Kind of leaning towards the ninja since it has the slipper clutch, abs and tons of after market parts which could be fun.

Yeah I would wait a year or 2 to let them sharpen steering and sort suspension ect. On the new r3 I'm sure there will be growing pains. The ninja is ultra competitive with a huge array of aftermarket accessories. Honda is making progress with their 300 but way more parts for the kawi makes is a better choice.

I had a deposit down on a KTM RC390, but after reading some reliability issues I started getting concerned. First year models are always risky (I say that and I bought a '15 WRX).

Anyways, long story short the dealership (different than the one I'm working with now) called up last minute and wanted to charge an additional LAC "Limited access charge" fee. Wanted to evaluate the market to see what that additional fee would be based on the bikes popularity / limited availability.

I told him to shove it and walked away from the deal since I was on the fence anyways.

Figure I'll use the ninja for a year or so then trade up again maybe the KTM RC390 will be more refined by then.

Why not name them? Sounds like Cycles 128.

Yup you got it - How did you know it was them?

I did my safety class there and had a great experience with the teachers. The dealers.. well not so much.

New England Street Rider is generally very direct about dealerships.

I walked in there in 2007. "Do you have any V-Stroms?" "No." ""Any on order?" "No." "Any other bikes like it in stock?" "I hear BMW makes a good one." [They don't sell BMW].

Bought a V-Strom used (93 miles on it) and wanted an OEM key. "Do you make keys?" "Yes." "Using the OEM blank?" "Yes." They then proceeded to make me two keys, using aftermarket blanks, for which they wanted $9 each.

Their apparel department is pretty good. Now I buy parts at the dealer in Everett.

Parkway cycles (Everette) is where i got my CBR from and now where I'm getting my ninja from. Much better dealership than cycles128 even though they are part of the same dealer network.
