Got a cracked windshield. Can anyone recommend a good auto glass replacement shop ?
FYI - My insurance recommended shop wants $795 + tax + labor - I've obtained 3 other quotes ranging from $300 - $500 - Diamond Glass - Globe Auto Glass - East Hanover Auto Glass Thanks in advance. - Rak

I had mine replaced from the body shop across the street from where I work in New Rochelle. I'm friends with the owner, he gave 3 quotes $80 for a salvaged one, $120 for a new one, and $150 for a supposedly better than factory windshield (I got this one and like it a lot) Charged me $150 + $30 for labor (glass guy came and did it at his garage). I can get a quote for you if you want if you give me the year and model, but I can't promise that you'll get a discount of any kind, but I can try. Pm me. - Mike

shouldn't your insurance cover it. I busted mine a few months back and my deductable was 100 bucks. I called this company called safelite autoglass and they ordered an OEm stock window and installed it with new molding in my driveway. Not bad for 100 bucks. Looks factory I would never know. guaranteed workmanship.

I went with Safelite too and was very happy with them. They came and did it in my driveway at home, very convenient and lifetime guarantee againt leaks. Even so, make sure you tell them to order a new seal for you. My guy was able to cut the old one to work, but you're better off with a new one.
Don't go with a dealer, they just contract out to other companies, including Safelite, and charge you 6 times the price. Good luck Rak! -Erik |

Thanks for the feedback everyone.
Erik and Scott I'll give Safelite a call. By the way one vendor told me that the WRX did not need a new molding. - Rak PS (I have a high deductible so my insurance company suggested that it may be cheaper for me to get it done myself). |

I got it done by the guy in Queens also... like Balajc. He bumped the price up to $275 though. But hey, I didn't complain 'cause he was still $500 cheaper than my next lowest quote.
I'd definitely recommend him. |

Hey Rak, too bad about the window. Make sure you get it fixed soon. I'd hate to see it crack in half on one of your high speed runs.

I spoke with the guy I know, you should have a quote by lunch time (the guy he knows at the glass company was out)- I'll find out the company name too. It might be higher than mine was, considering your car is still a new car model for auto body shops.

IMHO, I'd opt for aftermarket glass, and not a direct replacement from Subaru.
There are way too many people complaining of busted windshields on the WRXs. Seems like the OEM stuff is an inferior product. My glass broke at the bottom left(somewhere under the moulding...not a rock chip...then went way across, and then back down under the moulding on the passenger side. I had the choice, and my reasoning is that if there are this many problems this soon, stay away from replacement OEM glass. I got mine replaced by Safelite, covered by insurance. They also replaced the outside plastic/rubber surround. The glass is about optically perfect. No distortions anywhere, looking from any angle...unlike my original glass. Just my $.02 Andy |

Thanks for the responses everyone. I'm scheduled to have the windshield replaced today by Diamond Auto Glass (800-644-7074).
They have a mobile service and with their price match guarantee I was able to get a price of $227 + tax. Safelite gave a $230 + tax quote but they were not able to fix it until Thursday. - Rak |

Mitch:
The guys did a fast and efficient install (30mins) but I am left in a quandry. The glass is much too smooth. Unfortunately, it clashes with my lunar landscape hood (they commented on that by the way). But I'm sure with a few back road drives it will "break-in" nicely. - Rak |
