Default Picked up my 2011 wrx but....

So I went to the dealership this morning to pick up my new '11 wrx. When I got there the salesman met me at the door and gave me the keys to check it out. I did a walk around to check for scratches and dings...didn't see any. I then hopped in the car checked to make sure all my accessories were there and then took her for a spin. Satisfied with everything I proceeded inside to finish up all my paperwork. Ready to drive her home I gave her one more walk around and when I got to the front bumper I got on my hands an knees to take a look at the underside and what do I see....f$!king scrapes! . Its not bad but definitely not acceptable! I'm guessing it happened when they unloaded it during delivery. Anyway I left it at the dealership for them to fix. I wonder if the dealership knew about it and thought I wouldn't notice it. I thought I was finally gonna have my car today....guess not.

Honestly friend, no matter how well they repaint it, you'll probably end up having it scraped again.

I should know, I've had my front bumper REPLACED and had it's paint scraped 2 weeks later.
(while being super extra paranoid)

Cracked Front Bumper:

There's an ongoing thread talking about these types of issues.

So the only real ways to go about it are:

1: Accepting it for what it is
2. Being extra careful

Yeah its a tough subject, I mean when you get a brand new car that you pay a great deal for you expect it to not have one hair, one scratch, one ding, one anything on it, thats why you bought it new and not used.

Sorry you had to deal with this, maybe have them take the cost of repair off your payment???

Yeah I actually saw that thread which is why I got down to check the bumper out. I know it's gonna get scraped in the future but I look at it like this...if I'm paying new car money that car better be in new car condition.

I hate to say it, but it is going to happen. I just picked up my 2011 Saturday and in less than 24 hours I scraped the bottom up front. That was even going slow. I felt sick.

Have fun with your new ride. I love mine.

This same thing happened to me. I bought mine 2 weeks ago and realized once I got it home that there were some scrapes on the underside of the bumpers (the sections on the outside that are closer to the ground). I brought it back to the dealer and they said they'd paint it for me if I wanted.

This is my second wrx and that part of the bymper just gets scratched up, especially in winter. They gave me some free oil changes and some touch up paint instead. I was furious too but unfortunately, it happens...

Since September when I picked mine up here's my list of crap that has happened...

1) Piece of metal rusted off a car in front of me and flew onto my hood and into my scoop. Left some scratches and a little dent on the intercooler.
2) Basic rock chips on hood, including one that has rust, which I will touch up soon.
3) Pulled out of a lot and it had an unavoidable dip. Scraped the left side under the bumper.
4) While in NYC I was coming down a ridiculously narrow and tight parking garage and apparently scraped the wall at one point. I got home from the trip to see yellow paint, which rubbed off, and some yucky scrapes to the lower part of the bumper on the left side.

Unfortunately, as much as we want to keep our cars perfect, crap happens. If you daily drive the car it's unavoidable that scratches, dings, and other misc junk will happen. It kills me every time, but I know the minor stuff is easily fixable.

Hers's mine...

Paintless dent removal
drywall screw in a tire
twisted metal from the highway scraped from the headlight to the side mirror
snag in the red stitching on my seat
various rock chips

I know they don't stay new forever, but it only has 8,000 miles. What's next?

Completely agree. New car money = new car condition.

Yea, I bet someone knew and tried to slip it past you, be it the delivery driver, service dept...who knows. Most salespeople don't know a bumper from their butts, but would try and pass of a car with 3 wheels to their mothers.

Good luck with it, and remember that down the line this issue will seem less and less significant.

Very true. I know the first scrape I put on it is gonna break my heart, but I'll get over it

I know it's tough considering it's brand new but as other have mentioned, you will accidentally scrape the **** out of the bottom of your bumper even if you are as careful as possible. I would do what Bluemanchu hinted at and ask them for a free lip instead of having the bumper repainted.
