Default Artega Says It Will Debut Production-Ready 375-HP EV This Fall

Quote:
For those rarified individuals who feel like the 288 horsepower and the 125 mile-per-hour top speed provided by the Tesla Roadster is a compromise of sorts, fear not. The Artega SE will be here soon. At least if you're reading this from Europe.

Artega Automobil, the German specialty manufacturer, unveiled the Artega SE at the Geneva Auto Show, with plans to show a production-ready version at this fall's 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show and a production debut next year.

The Artega SE, which will have the same body as the mid-engined gas-powered Artega GT, will have 375 horsepower combined from its two electric motors that will propel the carís rear wheels.

The car, whose $207,000 price is about $100,000 more than the Tesla Roadster, will top out at more than 155 mph, although its 0-60 mph acceleration time will be about a half-second slower than the Roadster's 3.9-second time.

Also, there's no ragtop version of the Henrik Fisker-designed Artega, whose single-charge range of about 125 miles is about half that of the Roadster.

Regardless, Artega will join Tesla and Audi among automakers counting on high-net-worth individuals to fork over more than six figures to combine their lust for high-powered cars with some degree of environmental sensitivity.

Audi this year is planning to start limited sales of its e-tron sports car, which will likely be priced about $160,000, has a 0-60 mph acceleration time of about 4.5 seconds and delivers about 500 pound-feet of torque.

Tesla last month said its fourth-quarter loss widened from a year earlier, though the company forecast a 50 percent jump in 2011 revenue and said its Model S sedan was on track for its mid-2012 debut.

That's a great looking car. I wonder how much it weighs. If it's the size of a Tesla, that will be very quick.

i didn't spend much time looking at work, but i would like to see more pics. i like what i see, but i wonder about how much the aero requirements will make it funky looking. for the record, i think the tesla car is kinda funky looking.

Wait, so it accelerates slower than the Tesla, it can only go half as far as the tesla, and yet is costs 100k more than the tesla? AHHAA

I have never seen a market niche where people with a shred of common sense need not apply.

The VR6 normal Artega GT is just fine, and a very attractive car.
