We're going to get the sheets for the flat bottom, wing, canards and trunk bottom right now. Should get all that done today.

why do people think that a 600whp car needs more oil volume per RPM than a 400whp car?
Maintaining pressure should be your only concern. Driving more volume (resulting in pressure and bypassing) only robs you of power...as well as heating up the oil and aerating it, right back into your pan

the 08+ sti comes oem with an 11mm oil pump, he mentioned he was going with a 10 for his built (non stock) set-up. I was just curious why as it sounded like he might have had a problem with the previous setup

I've heard from several that the 12mm isn't nessacary and the reason why I didnt go with one, so a 600whp set-up doesn't need anymore oil pump then a 220-230whp car came with tho? thats something I don't fully get, but then again I don't build motors & am still learning with all this, so your advice is appriciated

sorry for the thread jack ron...looks really fun over there.

exec...i have a build thread. i attribute blown rod bearing to excessive oil pressure, based on how the bearings were damaged.

10mm non avcs, 11mm single avcs, 12mm dual avcs? i will be closely monitoring oil pressure this time. homemade has been warning me about the 12mm bypass problem for some time...

The 08 STi also came with dual AVCS...

from the factory, 10mm is turbo and turbo single avcs, 11mm is turbo w/dual avcs, while the ONLY 12mm setup was dual avcs and TWIN turbo. <--the Legacy B4 was also a low RPM engine (redline was 7k IIRC). So high speed (8k+) pump efficiency was far from the design table.

now what is needed for your build is up to the build itself and how loose your tolerances and how much oil the turbo requires. Also to be noted is for extreme cases of a monster tq auto-x build, a larger pump can be benificial in that it can created pressure earlier, so when you're making 400+ lb-ft at 4k, you have a strong oil wedge.

the years of Subaru 'engine builders' who really don't know wtf they're doing and spouting misinformation has caused some issues and numerous engine failures (see my plagued pm box of questions) but it does seem like many more people are taking on their own builds and using their own insight and research

Ron, what are you expecting to run with this build? 600hp? 10 seconds? what's the magic number?

my loose limits are 30psi and 7500-7800 rpm with the gtx3582....so whatever that gets me....

for 2500 lb weight people have been predicting 9.2-9.5

but i'll be happy with anything under 10.5 during the first 2-3 track days.

we're probably gonna run it on the street tires at first just to get it dialed in and see some traps so 9's most likely wont happen on those tires

Figure on around 700whp. I'd say definitely a 9 second car, but I'm thinking more around 9.7.

700whp is way too high. The turbo is only a 720chp turbo. Maybe 700 on a dj or dynapack....but on the road dyno I'm expecting ~550whp

Considering he has larger cams than me, but a slightly smaller turbo, it should make very similar power to my car. Weighing in at close to 1000 pounds less than my car with much better gearing PPG's, this car should go very low into the 9's with no problem and into the 8's with me in the cockpit

Ron,

Check this out:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2294126

Its pretty much your build in a new body. This is a true 600+ combo. 580 on this dyno made 711 on a dynojet. I tuned a vf car here and made 258.. lol.

Expect big tings!!

I'd like to be done in 2 months....but in reality it will probably be another year. I only get to work on it 4-6 days a month.

Still to be done

- finish cage
- front diffuser
- rear diffuser
- rear wing
- rear canards
- parachute mounts
- fuel lines
- brake lines
- brakes
- EM & wiring
- fiberglass front end
- trunk/cockpit divider
- sand blast whole car
- remove sound deadening from underbody and wheel wells
- aluminum driveshaft
- window mounts
- repair ppg's
- shave door handles (maybe)
- install trans, motor, driveshaft
