Default Is this a good buy??? 1991 Legacy turbo with the EJ22T closed deck

hey guys, what do you think is this a good buy? stock engine, comes with second complete engine with 140,000 miles. both engines are the ej 22 with the turbo, closed deck. super rare, the engines can handle a lot of boost and horsepower. in good condition except for some dings. lowered 2 inches with wrx struts. has the 5 speed, also super rare!!!http://www.ksl.com/index.php?sid=0&n...iew&ad=4109522
let me know what you think

i think it's ugly but that's just a personal thing. i've heard those engines go for like 2k no? in that case it might be a good deal. if you're serious about it take it to solid autowerks in slc to have it checked out, they know their stuff.

I saw that and thought "eh".

The Sport Sedans aren't nearly as rare as people think. Touring Wagons on the other hand are getting hard to find.

The EJ22T block is sought after for some applications, but it's not really typical to build in the first gen Legacies (not to say it can't be done).

The SS has developed a reputation as being a quickish cheap car, and most have been trashed. I'd be skeptical about why another engine is needed.

Biggest issues on a car of that age are maintenance and rust. I scored my wagon for cheap because the PO mistook a bad coolant sensor for a blown turbo. But rust is taking a toll on the body now.

Finally, if you want a first gen Legacy, the post-facelift versions tend to be more desirable.

And FYI, Solid wouldn't touch my Touring Wagon when I bought it. I think it was Noah that told me they only work on '96 and newer. Solid sent me to Charlie's Automotive.

thanks for the input guys, i am debating it. i really really want it though, and i might not be the prettiest car, or have the most power, but look at its pedigree. 1991 was subaru's year in the rally department, collin mccrae drove one of these. i test drove it and it sounds and feels like the orig. motor has some life left. and the spare engine has about 100,000 on it. the guy is a mechanic and it has no problems whatsoever. he keeps it pretty clean. honestly the engine is cleaner than my 95. and regular maintenance. he drives it daily and thats why there is so many miles(to wendover and back every saturday). i dont know though, maybe its just my wants kicking in.
has 98 impreza interior, all redone. and wrx struts, so it sits 1.5 inches lower. new tires. he has a lot of extra parts too.

The 91 probably has an LSD, also. They apparently also had better ABS and I think they look better in the SS than the later, facelifted models.

Also, Charlie is more familiar with those cars than Solid.
