If you want a quick, cheap fix, I have my stock dp still sitting around.

I have a problem I need some help with, and thought I would start with the local C'ville folks. Last week I got the P0420 code (totally stock motor and exhaust - 2003 wrx wagon). Brown Subaru checked it and said that the downpipe cat is bad and a new Subaru one is about a grand. I used to take a lot of short trips (1/2 mile - I am thinking this could have done it in...?)

So - time to go to stage 2, right? Can a stage 2 car pass inspection (mine expired today)? Can anyone recommend a tuner if I go that way? How about an inspection shop?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Never go to Brown, ever. Your story is a perfect example why.

Look, here's an Invidia DP for $250, and it's better than stock:

You can buy it used for less than new off NASIOC.

You can always force the issue... check out High Speed Auto out in Barboursville.. maybe they can do work on stuff under warranty.

Might be a good idea, but I'll bet I'd have a lot of sleepless nights. I'd much rather find out who did it, wait until the hottest day of the year, then crack open about 6 dozen eggs all over their car.

Many moons ago, a bunch of guys threw eggs at my Trans Am windshield as I was passing under the Dairy Road bridge on the bypass. Little did they know that I knew how to circle around and find them. I can still see the looks on their faces as I came roaring up on the bridge at about 50 MPH. They jumped in their car and took off, but I chased them all through town until I got stuck at a red light.

Stage 2 car can pass inspection no problem as long as you have a cat (or something that looks like a cat ). PM me if you have any problems with getting a stage 2 car inspected, I know of a couple places you can go..

As far as tuners go there are some reputable shops a couple hours north of us, or you can get an e-tune. Infamous1 (http://www.infamoustuning.com/) tuned both Matt and my LGTs via e-tune and we're both happy with the results. He tunes via APv.2 or Open Source.

Brown is terrible. Sorry to anyone that works there, but here is my experience. I had a 2002 bugeye wrx, and back in 2005 they told me my turbo was blown. So I ordered a new one. They installed it, and it turned out it wasnt the turbo at all, it was the boost controller that had gone bad. Because I was using an aftermarket exhaust and boost controller they wouldnt take any responsibility. I ended up reinstalling the old turbo and selling the new one... also the day after the car came out of their shop i noticed my power steering start to get worse and worse. The car was leaking power steering fluid. It was a connection in the line that came loose...........coincidence? I don't know-- but I never went back again.

gas, indoor and pretty quick. we were all ballasted to 240#. back when the karts were new, we were all within a .3 spread. it can depend a lot on the kart now. my 3rd race one was a second slower.
