Default 2011 SPT exhaust

I ordered my 2011 WRX last week and I didnt get the SPT exhaust too much, brand new installed it's around $1200. I was wondering if I can just buy the muffler,no mid pipe or anything,or will this even work if I just swap mufflers? from somebody on here or from a vendor?

Thank you

SJ

Check out Nameless Performance... theres a large thread here if you search it. They sell an axleback for 299 sedan and 435 i think for hatch. Sounds AWESOME. Check out the vids, I think you will be impressed.

I got the SPT for 800 installed and I wish I knew about this company (they are pretty new) before I bought it. Regardless, I am happy with my SPT.

No problem. They are a small company and appears they make very high quality stuff. I've read through that whole thread and the owner is very knowledgeable. Give it a try and post back with pics/vids!

I was actually contemplating on selling the SPT and getting one of his axlebacks... but the midpipes on SPT vs stock are different so I dont believe he has developed an axleback to hook up to the SPT midpipe.

+1 for Nameless Performance. Jason and his crew are absolutely top notch.

However, the SPT also sounds great and is covered under your 3yr/36,000 mile warranty. Downside is the extra cost.

Yea it does sound very nice. A nice refined tone. Only reason I would want to swap it out is for the extra touch of loudness. Less weight never hurts either. But you are right, at least I have the warranty, and since I've already paid the extra cost might as well keep it! Money better spent on other things like some new wheels for this summer .

Is this exhaust a really big change from the stock? My grandpa bought this car for me and I don't want him to be mad if it's really loud. Or even really notice if you know what I mean.

I just had the SPT installed and I do have to say it is LOUD coming from someone who has only had normal factory exhausts installed on all previous cars...

It is quite a big difference. Check out all the vids... there was one just posted that compared before and after for a sedan. Tell your grandpa its supposed to sound this way

EDIT: Also, the Nameless axleback is pretty loud because there are no mufflers. Mufflers... muffle sound.

You are definitely better off keeping it on there for now. Get your wheels, and then swap the SPT when it's time to go for a TBE.

It definitely lets that oh so beautiful rumble out of the car, but it's not extremely loud by any means. Doesn't really draw unwanted attention from the cops, doesn't drone on the interstate...very good overall sound.

definitely agree with what others have said. my car came with the SPT exhaust and coming from only owning stock factory exhausts I do feel like it is louder than I am used to but not so loud to the point of being obnoxious. the styling on the car is loud so I feel like it's actually kind of nice to have a matching exhaust tone.

Here's a comparison of the stock and SPT exhausts on the 2011 WRX Hatch. The SPT is significantly louder.

I realize it's just a video and not a true representation of how the exhausts really sound, but it does show how much better the SPT sounds than the stock exhaust. I don't find that loud at all, just a whole lot of deepy-goodness.

How does the nameless compare to the spt in terms of loudness?

That spt sounds good. Imo its not loud at all.

Though loud to me was my 3" catless perrin tbe (first gen) I had on my 04 wrx.

SPT is definitely a good balance in comfort and sound. Not even close to being obnoxious.

What about the performance gains from the spt catback? I've been trying to find something on that. Is it anything noticeable?

I test drove a 2010 with 8000 miles on it today. It had a stp exhaust and a stp refalshed ecu. He told me it was good for 10 more HP with the STP exhaust and reflash.

I didn't know a motor oil company made exhausts or reflashed ECUs

Pardon my ignorance here, but if the SPT exhaust is installed by the dealer, do they typically reflash your ECU as a normal thing? I.e., does the cost actually get you the upgraded exhaust & a non-crap tune covered by warranty?

I'm assuming the SPT exhaust reflash is non-crap, but considering how much hate there is for the stock STI for (for example) I can't really see it being worse.

See where I'm going with that?

The SPT exhaust has a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty but I have never heard of a SPT reflash. I don't even think there is such a thing as a SPT reflash but I could be wrong

Does anyone have a preferred place to order the kit online? I'm tossing around the idea of getting one for the WRX I ordered, but I think I could save a few pennies installing it myself. Should only be half an hour to an hour job to install it and I can sell my stock exhaust to recoup some cash.
