I just posted a video above you reply lol

It sounds like a putting sound like a leak, I thought maybe the wastegate arm is loose causing the flapper to "flap"

Yes seen it just after I posted lol but cant really distinguish an unfamiliar sound besides sounding like a go pro lol. Even if your waste gate arm was loose wouldn't cause that bc its spring loaded and if anything wouldn't open properly. Check your hangar bearing make sure it isn't a little loose and I mean little cuz if it was loose u would sure as **** know it

I've got the same sound too. It started after I put my DP on I took it to my tuner and he said its my wastegate and not to worry.

That's exactly when I hear it, passing walls or other cars, or when takin off from a stop. It's only under low rpm.

If you watch the video I posted you can hear it when I take off from the light. You could hear it more before I uploaded to YouTube

I have this same issue. I just installed invidia dp and catback. It sounds like an exhaust leak at low rpm but then starts to whistle and flutter under boost. Almost like a baby EWG lol if that makes sense. All gaskets are new and not leaking. Figured it was from the bigger dp. Idk but it drives me insane.

I'm very close to ordering new exhaust manifold and up pipe gaskets but this makes me worry I'll waste money lol.

There has to be a way to fix the sound, I've never heard another wrx with the sound I have.

It does kind of sound like a baby Ewg haha, drives me bonkers!!

My tuner buddy said its probably caused by the open downpipe and small turbine that spins so easily. He said if I got a bigger turbo the sound should disappear but I say it's an exhaust leak..

To be honest, I can't hear anything "abnormal". Throw your OEM downpipe on and see if the same sound appears. If you don't hear the same sound then I would suggest leaving the stock pipe on and sticking with it.

I don't have the stock downpipe and I'm cobb dyno tuned on my setup so I'm not removing parts

What turbo is everyone who is having this problem running? TD04?

After I installed a Cobb Catted Downpipe I had a tiny exhaust leak that drove me crazy. When I upgraded to a VF39 I found the source of the leak; the downpipe and TD04 don't line up exactly and there is a small point on the bottom right corner where the gasket doesn't get properly sandwiched and you end up with a tiny exhaust leak. Everything lined up perfectly on the VF39 and no more exhaust leak!

I have vf52-INVIDIA DP. I am 99% positive I do not have an exhaust leak. I Have been wrenching for years now and know how to install/diagnosis a leak. I kinda like it. Kinda whistles and shhshhshh hahah. Datalogs are solid, and car runs great. So for now I don't care.

We're not talking about the turbo whistling and spooling sound.

Here are some pics that show it perfectly. This is a brand new OEM gasket.

This is the VF39 turbo. Notice the gasket opening is larger than the turbo flange ensuring a good seal.

Now the TD04. Notice in the bottom right corner that the turbo flange is larger than the gasket opening and if that pinched steel ring doesn't get crushed just right you will have a small leak.

Well I replaced my giant 4" turboxs downpipe with an invidia v2 downpipe, and replaced my up-pipe to turbo gasket as well and the exhaust leak sound I was experiencing is virtually gone!

I will go record that I'm experiencing this sound and it has gotten me going crazy trying to figure it out. I'm glad I found this in the search results. I just installed a cobb catted dp on my '07 wrx and like everyone is saying the sound only occurs low rpm's. On my factory installed boost gauge the flutter is prominent right before it hits 0. I installed a grimmspeed gasket with the dp check for leaks and nothing.

Honduh... I'll look into getting a gasket for my UP to turbo. Hopefully that'll help.

^^^ I haven't touch the UP, so I'm sure if it is that or not. I had my car over at TiC last night and they said it was fine. I don't know

I've got the same sound on my 2007 WRX, stage 2 protune, invidia catted DP. I was concerned when I noticed the sound, so I brought it to my tuner and we took a spin around the block. He said it's normal, nothing to be concerned about, just the wastegate flapping a little.

chachas- I had my my suspension put in last week over at TiC. Went for a drive to test everything out and they said the same thing.
