I hope someone figures it. I'm on vacation for the next couple of weeks. I'm gonna pull things apart and see if I can figure it out. Mines seems to be getting worse.

Was swapping my q300 for stock exhaust today and after some searching and listening it appears that the noise is coming from the transmission. I will be ordering motul trans and diff fluid soon and see if that helps.

When i first installed my exhaust i had an open source stage two tune put on my wrx. I would have this weird flutter noise that sounded like a high pressure sprinkler.. a "tsh tsh tsh tsh" sound that i would only hear up to about 2500rpm.

For the longest time i thought i had an exhaust leak. I took the thing apart and put it back together three times.. replacing the turbo gasket twice and the donut gasket once. I even got a special adapter flange to connect the invidia downpipe to the cobb cat back. Nothing worked. the sound was still there and most prevalent when driving next to a wall or median. (I couldn't hear it at all with the windows up however).

I lived with the noise writing it off as wastegate flutter until i had the opportunity to install a MBS/EBS hybrid setup. The setup required a new tune from a different tuner. He solved the problem.

Now i dont know **** about tuning our cars but it turns out there is a table or something that controls wastegate pressure pre-boost (or something similar, i apologize for my lack of technical tuning know how) that was completely ignored in the original stage 2 tune. When i would hit the gas exhaust pressure from both sides of the arm, would push the gate open and closed rapidly until positive pressure could build and hold the arm closed.

No more weird exhaust leak sprinkler noise.

I don't know if you guys are experiencing the same thing but i hope this helps.

This does sound a lot like what I'm hearing. I'll still change my trans fluid and possible get a protune next spring. Thanks for the tip!! Happy it's nothing serious even though I get paranoid at times :/

Hey man no worries i know what its like to worry about the car. I changed my oil last week and when i emptied the drain pan i noticed what looked like really fine glitter at the bottom of it. It looked like tiny metal specs. Cant be good.

I took a sample of the oil and shipped it off to blackstone labs to figure out what the hell was going on in there. Report came back fine so I'm not worried about anymore but god damn! I thought my engine had cancer or something and it only has 43k on it!

(see the report here: http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/genera...-oil-help.html)

This is the VF39 turbo. Notice the gasket opening is larger than the turbo flange ensuring a good seal.

Now the TD04. Notice in the bottom right corner that the turbo flange is larger than the gasket opening and if that pinched steel ring doesn't get crushed just right you will have a small leak.
Wow, i think i have a slight exhaust leak but never considered that downpipe gasket to b an issue. I have TI-TEK downpipe and using it with grimmspeed gaskets. Ill try pulling it off, checking the gasket to turbo clearences, then if everything checks out, ill spray some copper gasket sealer.
Btw this is using a blouch 16g xt

Problem: Just installed the headers with all brand new grimmspeed gaskets. After the install, i did check for exhaust leaks by turning the car on and feeling all the places where i replaced the gaskets and everything checked out great. Took it for a drive and in low RPM i get the noise that sounds like a exhaust leak/ticking or sprinkler. I hear it in alleys or small areas where they noise bounces off the walls. Its driving me crazy!! I cannot find where its coming from?? I havent touched anything else, but install the headers. Thanks in advance.

People are still having issues! Guys I still have the problem ignoring it! Still drives me nuts and from gathering everything from what everyone says is

1) One guy said Up pipe gasket fixed the leak
2) Another guy said TD04(What I currently have is slightly smaller fitment for DP than vf39) So causes leak?
3) Another guy said its in the tune?

I guess option 1 sounds inexpensive, but on the other two options sound like a pretty penny to get rid of the flutter. I want to be 100% positive that it is my tune or turbo size causing this issue?

I ended up replacing my TurboXs 4" bellmouth downpipe that was having the exhaust leak sound with an Invidi Bellmouth Catless downpipe, along with replacing my up-pipe gasket and the sound went away 80%!

A friend of mine had a similar issue and noted that the flange on his downpipe (my old turboxs) was perfectly flat/angled right so it wouldn't seat on the turbo right. He also noted the downpipe was hitting something on the car not allowing it not to be able to put mounted flat to the turbo. So check clearances!
