Angry Well I got done TAMPERED with?

I went to get emissions done today at the same place that I got it done last year. My car has catless downpipe, which last year was no problem as the inspection report said catalyst- "not ready". This morning the report came back with "catalyst - TAMPERED". Apparently the shop got a new emissions machine/computer/whatever which is much more stricter.

So I now have to put my old downpipe back on to get it inspected. My questions to the mighty RMIC is: Is there any danger putting the old downpipe for one day with tune being stg2? Or do i have to have somebody flash the stock map for this? Should I expect the check engine light to come on after putting the cats back on, I assume I have take it for a drive for ecu to "adjust" to the cats being on.

Stupid me should've not cheaped out and bought a catted downpipe.

In SLC they will fail you even with a catted down pipe. The look for the number of factory cats in the down pipe. You should be fine running the stage 2 map as long as you are not driving the car hard. You will need to do a full drive cycle before the computer will give you a ready code. 50-100 miles iirc.

Thanks man. Thats what I needed to know. I'm not planning on getting an aftermarket catted pipe anyway. Just wanted to know if I could just safely stick the factory pipe back on and get it passed. They did told me to drive it for 20-30miles, but I'll trust your advice and go drive for at least 50.

I'm planning to sell the car in the summer, so maybe i'll have one of our talented tuners flash the stock map on and leave that stock dp on permanently. Don't want to go through all that catless mumbo-jumbo when selling the car.

^ You can always try going to your regular shop with a chance that they don't have the new emissions tester, just because my shop has one doesn't mean all of them do. It sucks Utah=California I guess.

In my experience, this is not universally true; my friend has had a Cobb turbo back with catted downpipe, Cobb AP stage 2 or 2.5, and catless uppipe for many years and never had a problem with safety/emissions. Maybe this is because the AP maps defeat the cat malfunction codes? If that is the case, the sensitivity of the OBD plug in machine should not matter. They must have done a sniff test?

yeah I was wondering about this too^^ I have the Cobb catted down pipe and I passed just fine last year, although since I threw the catless uppipe on I'm not exactly sure about this year, but that would be were open source comes in.

axleon2 I took mine to the jiffy lube just on the corner of redwood and 90th and they passed me, they kept asking if my cat in my dp was just a resonator but other than that once my car said "ready" it was no problem. there are some cool kids that work there, hopefully that helps

Yeah I hear that they are looking for cats in the downpipe and doing sniff tests starting this year. I may be screwed. Can't I just drive to Kamas and get it passed up there, anyone know how that'd work?

If you have family in Wasatch county you can get your car passed up there. you need to prove you have an address up there though.

Can you register your car to a P.O. Box address in a different county?

i am going through this now as my registration is up. long story short you will have to return the car to stock or mostly stock to get past the new software which can detect that you no longer have cats. Booo!

This doesn't seen right, as long as the readiness monitors and the efficiency thresholds are in line like brody said you only have the visual to get by

A little confused why catted turbo backs are still being turned away? They better not fail me with my 4" inch catted whale dong dp

Because you have one less cat than the car came with from the factory in the dp.

My sti only had one cat factory, all the catted down pipes only have one so I don't see why it would fail.

PS Tooele Address ftw.

All turbo subaru's have two cats in the down pipe.

http://www.wrxtuners.com/forums/f51/...els-you-25335/

Sti, and 06+ wrx, and 07 other turbo models eliminated the uppipe cat.
