Not a funny phrase or question but felt inclined to share:

Driving at normal speeds doing my normal thing on the road.

Following a red SUV at (what I think is) a normal following distance.

SUV yanks right into the other lane, rolls down his window, and deuces me.

I pass him deuce back thinking "hell yeah, someone who respects the soob". We stop at the next red light.

*He hangs his arm out the window and gives me a nod. On his arm is a FAT Corvette tattoo.

I was flabbergasted......

I've got a good friend with a lifted Ram 2500 with the V10 in it, he is 6'6", a great guy, and probably the most knowledgeable shade-tree mechanic I know.

But anyway, my dad just told me he had a dream that I was driving him somewhere in my car, and I was about to hit a kangaroo in the middle of the road... He knows they are Japanese.

Along the same lines today. Foreman at work told me my car was Australian made and that his Toyota Tundra was better because it was Japanese. And then tried to fight with me about it when I corrected him...

'Roos are freaking dangerous. Their worse than deer about darting out in front of you at high speeds. And the outback is WAY more remote than the US. Take thy fathers warning to heart!

730AM this morning, filling up at a gas station. On the other side of the pump was a landscaping crew filling up their truck. I overhear them talking to each other about my car.

landscaper 1: that's a nice car
landscaper 2: yeah, looks like it's got a turbo. See the hood intake?
landscaper 1: what kind of car is that?
landscaper 2: I think it's a Saturn.
landscaper 1: a Saturn?
landscaper 2: yeah, definitely a Saturn.

I had to keep from laughing out loud as I got into my "Saturn" and drove off.

I just had a guy in at the Grocery store approach me to ask about my car.

guy: is it true you can make subarus jump?

Me: Umm... Yeah, I guess you can make any car jump, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Guy: No, that's not what I mean. When they first came out I was told that you could power brake them and get the back wheels spinning, and then when you let off of the brake the front end would grab and the whole car would come off of the ground.

Me: Yeah... I don't think I would try that.

Guy: Why not, what could it hurt? It is the all wheel drive model isn't it?

People never cease to amaze me. This guy was one strange cookie.

Today at window tint shop:

Owner: I'm sorry sir but I'll not have people see my work on a Honda, but come back in a Subaru and I'll cut you a deal.

Me: what if I told you it was a Subaru?

Owner: I would call you a damn liar.

Me: I guess am I liar then.

not to mention the vast majority of non-subaru cars out there with hood scoops are also non-turbo (mustangs, those fake subaru look-a-like kias etc)

i get the 'is it awd, is it turbo, what kind of car is that' etc sort of questions a lot, and that doesn't bother me in the least. that's not people being ignorant, that's people being curious and trying to learn.

it's the total ignorance i find tiring. 'why would you put that big wing on a fwd toyota? (i actually get toyota much more often than honda for some reason. i have a hawkeye, i honestly think it looks significantly different than anything else on the road), hood scoops don't do anything. you should fix your car, it's misfiring, i know these things.'

i always love and hate reading this thread. it puts a smile on my face when i hear a little story about someone being amazed by a subaru, or getting all excited about seeing one. it makes me sad when i hear a story about someone asking a legitimate question, or just not knowing everything about the car and the subaru owner gets all snotty about it.

I think the early 2000's commercials really stick to peoples minds, im refering to the ones with the outbacks in australia, I had a girl trying to impress her boyfriend or date i guess.

I had my RS coupe parked ,she came up to me and was telling me how sick my car was, that it was sexy, she did ask if it had one of those turbos, which i said it did.
She responded "dude thats sick, specially because those Australians sure know how to make a turbo!"

yup they suuuurree do...

yuup! just b/c they have a tiny bit of Subaru knowledge and others dont, they have the need to make themselves feel good inside by belittling. How about educating others? The amount of ppl that are actually modding cars the proper way are dwindling!
