OMG, one of my friends is annoying the hell out of me, comparing my car to his and every other car in the world. He drives a freaking Neon SXT with a body kit on it, stock wheels, and dual exhaust.

3 things just from last night alone...

1st one...
Friend: You should get a blow-off valve, that would have been the first thing I'd have done with this car.
Me: (thinking I've already been over this once a few weeks ago) No, they're worthless on this car and make it run like crap and can cause you to stall out at lights. The only time they are worthwhile is when you start running a larger turbo since the BPV can't handle but so much boost.
Friend: Well it'd still sound awesome.
Me: That's why I have an EWG waiting to install when I get fuel upgrades, sounds BA AND doesn't make the car run like crap.

2nd one...
After we ride over some bumps on interstate...
Friend: That's why I love my car, I love my independent suspension.
Me: Rob, you know this car DOES have IRS right?
Friend: Oh, well I guess it rides so rough because of your suspension.
Me: Yeah, the stiffer the suspension the better it is for turning, but you have to sacrifice a little comfort.

3rd one...
I think he got a little pissed off because he felt stupid after explaining the 2nd one, so he MUST have been looking for something to nit-pick on my car. Get ready for this one...
Friend: Man that sucks
Me: What?
Friend: You don't have overdrive, you've got 6 gears, but don't have an overdrive button.

It honestly took me a few seconds to even realize exactly WTF he was talking about. Then I remembered his Neon is an autotragic and realized he's probably never even driven a freaking manual tranny, lol.

I really wanted to put him in his place with "yeah Rob, I do have overdrive, it's called dropping down a gear", but didn't feel like getting into it with him.

Dude is cool as hell as a friend, but OMFG does he get on my nerves when he tries to talk car stuff. I wish I could help teach him, but honestly he's a lost cause. He still thinks body kits are the coolest thing ever and tries to tell me I should put one on the STi.

"Man that sucks, you don't have an overdrive gear". Beat that

Sigh, and now I remember why I only get on here about once a month. The only time he uses the overdrive in his car is "for extra power". Forgot I have to explain every f**kin detail on here or people like you with nothing to do try to pick it apart.

Just got my first subie a week ago (06 wrx limited) wasn't 3 days and I heard these.

My best friends mom "now that's a nice mustang!"
Random kid "what kind of body kit is that on your escort?"
Friend "man aussies really know how to make a good car"

pathetic...

I think he just ment that overdrive typically isnt used for MORE POWER, but for cruising at highway speeds. Like a old th400 auto. its a 3 speed with overdrive so you really have 4 gears.

Reading between the lines FAIL.

Sarcasm was already provided on this topic.

Anyways, what I have to contribute is another comment I remembered from a while back:
Broski: you should get a backfire kit for this
Me: a what?
Broski: a backfire kit, when you shift, it keeps your turbo spooled up.
Me: you mean anti-lag?
Broski: no, a backfire kit!
Me: I've never heard of it, but it sounds like either a bad tune or anti-lag. Neither of which is good on a daily driven car. Bad tunes destroy engines, anti-lag destroys turbos.

Was at a shop in CT a few weeks back with a friend who went there to get info on a build for his Mustang. We went in his brothers 04 STI that's putting down 572whp (gt35r rotated, meth and all other sorts of other goodies)

I waited outside while he went in to chat with the owner

Shop guy 1: Nice 4 banger

Me: Thx

Me: (in a joking tone) yeah we came down to see if he can build his Stang up so it can hang with this car lol

Shop guy 2: Man the day a 4 banger takes down a Stang built in this shop, I will eat my hat. That 4 banger better count its blessings cuz we build some mean 500+WHP ponies here.

Me: I donít know about who can take who down but Did you know some 4 bangers can hit 700+HP when properly built?

Shop guy 1: Yeah right that will be the day

Shop guy 2: Burst out laughing

Shop guy 1: 700+?? are you on crack a 4 banger can't even produce 500HP let alone 700HP

I walk over to my friends car and grab the dyno sheet from the glove box (it was tuned the week before so it was still in the glove box)

Me: Here take a look at this

Shop guy 1: WTF??!!

Shop guy 2: This has to be fake!!

Me: ;-)

The look on their faces reassured me that they were defiantly not pulling my leg, these guys were clueless what a "4 banger" can produce when in proper hands.

High displacement V6 and V8 engines have their place, but I hate older folks that think that's all there is to it. This isn't the era of carbureted (for some reason spell check says that's wrong even though carburetor is correct - sorry) engines and manual timings anymore, more displacement doesn't always equate to more power, and more power doesn't always equate to a quicker car.

The sooner the American car makers can get that through their heads, the higher the chance of the auto industry making a comeback.

Its not the car makers that need to be convinced of that, its the car buyers. American car makers can't make small, lightweight, turbocharged cars because the american public won't buy them. I have a facebook conversation that I'll post here if I have time. The stupidity is strong with this one.

Only the Americans are possible of making such big engines with such little hp. BMW can churn out 550+ hp with a 4.4L V8 where Dodge needs 8.3L to do the same. I understand the American mentality that there is no replacement for displacement...but when you have a much smaller, light weight engine, the car handles and performs so much better

This one is from one of my coworker (owns a scion tC)
*runs up to me while im walking to the building*
him - hey man when did you put a turbo into your car?
me (not knowing where this conversation is going) - i've always had one in.
(joking around) me - how could you tell?
him - i looked into your window and i seen a boost gauge
me - really? that gave it away?
him - yeah i didnt know
me - so the boost gauge gave it away? not the big ass front mount intercooler sitting there?
him - oh sick you have one of those too?

"Is that round thing an extra clock"
"No..."
"It's kinda ugly"
"I know... :-( "

I hate that boost gauge (like I can't feel it), but there is a hole in the dash to contend with if I get rid of it.

Heard this from a friend of a friend

Guy 1: So AWD means that your car is anti hydroplaning right?
I mean if all your wheels turn then you can go faster in the rain, thats the main reason for them making Subarus AWD right? man i want a Subaru just so i dont have to hydroplane anymore.

Guy 2 (Subaru owner): Yes, exactly....I have yet to hydroplane while doing 100mph in the pouring rain....but shhh its a secret so dont tell the honda guys.

Guy 1: Ha ha yeah them RWD hondas are crap in the rain.

Guy 2:
