Any chance you can gut the cat out of a 02-05 WRX midpipe and not wreck it?

I'll give you $40 shipped for the gutted section (just need teh 3rd cat portion, second cat of the 2-piece DP!

Poor man's aftermarket high-flow exhaust, or for people who need to pass visual inspection. Gutted factory pipes are fairly common.

I have a 06 forester N/A that has a PO420 code and subaru said it was a bad cat. i cant find a aftermarket header to replace and Im not paying $700 for a new one. If you can find me a used one I will give you my old one.

BTW can you even use a bad cat for what your using it for?

how many miles on the car? did you check the o2 sensor? have you unbolted the cat and looked inside? is the car running particularly rich for any reason?

122K miles, I called Subaru and they said it was a cat code. I havent unbolted it to look inside. Would it look any different if it was bad or good???

Im not running rich or anything that I can tell, Im getting about the same gas mileage as I did when i bought it.

I was thinking that it may be O2 sensor too bc Im not smelling rotten eggs from the exhaust.
