Talking '99 MAF Recall!!

I just got this today...it was forwarded, so most of you probably already know about it. SOA has issued a recall for the '99 models to replace the MAF....hmmmm....I wonder why!
The program is - WWG-90
The back of the letter also states that if you send them a reciept for any MAF repairs done by a dealer, they will reimburse you for the parts & labor of said repair!!

If anyone has had this done please tell us if it makes a difference in daily driving and if there is a physical difference in the MAF!!
Thanks,
Doug

I was under the impression that the legacy did not get the phase 2 block until MY2000. Although I'm not enirely positive

Edit: Read these threads to identify Phase I or Phase II

Are you sure..... I thought the 99 Legacy still have the DOHC and only in 2000, they received the SOHC engines....

In Canada, I haven't heard anything for the MAF recall..... I haven't had a problem but I have a stock intake with a drop in filter.....

Is the replacement free for all 99 owners at no charge?
I didn't get an intake due to the sensitive MAF problem

Does anyone know if all MY99 RS's are included, I have still not receaved a letter but I did have my blown MAF replaced about a month ago so they may have done it.

I guess only certain MY99's are recalled. A friend of mine who works at the local dealer here asked me for the last 8 digits of my VIN so he could see if it is affected. I didn't get it to him in time today, so I should know Monday. I might not be affected since I got a later manufactured car (ordered in May of 99). I still haven't gotten a letter either. Seems to me ALL MY99 should be included!

Just contact your local Subaru dealer. I hadn't gotten a letter, but I asked the service manager and he set up a replacement for me. No hassle, no charge. Then again Subaru of Santa Cruz has an exceptionally good service department. They've got the recall info at the dealer. Bring in a '99 and they should fix it.

The Subaru sevice adviser at your locol dealership can put the last 8 of you VIN into their computer to check for all open campaigns on your car. I had this recall done today, I just hope my CEL doesn't come back on in a day or two I told the tech who did it that I wanted to keep my old MAF as a backup, and he told me he had a bunch, so I now have 5 backup MAFs

Think the dealer would replace one on an RS-T. It IS a recall afterall. Any Opinions?

I would say yes. This has nothing to do with your warranty. What I like is that the letter we got says it takes about 30minutes but to be prepared to leave it all day...it took the tech all of maybe 2 minutes to replace the unit, and maybe another 30seconds to reset my ECU

Thumbs up great news

On the subject on MAF's........when replacing the MAF you need hollow star keys......I am having a hard time finding this tool.

Is this a tool that I can buy at a good hardware store?

Drac, the dealer must replace the defective part BY LAW... because this is an emissions part the dealer is really bound to it. Ossie, you can by the star wrench at any hardware store.

And oh yeah... I finally got my letter yesterday

It's called a safety torx bit. I got a bunch of bit ends in a box and it had quite a few diff sizes of them.
