Default 2011 WRX fuel pick up problem?

I was at the track this weekend at the Rezoom Motorsports HPDE at Barber. I started my runs with about 3/8 of a tank of fuel before each run. A strange phenomenon occurred towards the end of the 30 minute run sessions, there seemed to be a fuel pick up problem. The car acted like it was hitting the rev limiter, or stuttering like it was running out of gas. This didn't happed every lap, but it happened about 3 times over the weekend. This occurred in 4th gear around 5000 RPM under hard acceleration in a straight line. I was speaking with someone about this who said it sounded like the fuel pump was getting hot. Has anyone experienced this before?

Fuel starvation seems to be a common issue with these cars. I found that out after experiencing the same last season, and searching the forums. I started bringing gas cans with me, and kept at least half a tank full. Never had any issues after that.

It would always be when coming out of a right turn onto a straight, and it would come on a bit into the straight, not right away. Around 5k sounds right.

I went out on my last run with a full tank of fuel, and didn't experience the problem.

Cool. If you are going to be going to the track more, invest in a couple of gas cans. Gas at the track (if available) is too expensive, and leaving in between sessions sucks. Don't let the tank drop below 1/2, and you should be fine. I'd recommend the No Spill brand, with the extension for the nozzle. I had a mess trying to use another brand that I bought from a local store (failed at the cap).

Or you could buy a Miata for track use, which is what I just did

On my 09' WRX; rcomps and under 1/3rd tank in a right hander was 100% fuel starvation unless you weren't exiting onto a straight in which case the fuel system might catch up..

We'll see how the 11' STI does...

I'm pleased with the WRX at the track so far. I'm really considering going with some swaybars, coilovers and a set of NT01's. I just wanted to make sure this issue wasn't going to be a big deal. Thanks for the input.
