I went last year and it was pretty good..... but don't wait too long if you're going and need a hotel room..... camping is the better way to go.....

One thing I didn't like was they were pretty anal when it comes to the spectator stages......

At one spot, they forced us to walk in the woods (which they cut a trail for all the people)..... we ended walking over 30-40 minutes in the woods to the spectator spot (rough terrain with lots of up and down) to only be about 300m from the finish line.....

We were easily an hour before the stage started and they did this..... I couldn't believe it!

In the US rallies, security is taken a little too seriously..... compared to canadian rallies..... just imagine if they had over 10 000 spectators instead of 500-1000 spectators..... Last year at Charlevoix, it was estimated that the total was over 30 000 spectators......

I will be camping so that's cool, but I wanted to ask if there are more fast cars? That last rally I went to in Bancroft was really cool, mellow and all that, but there were only 3 open class cars.

A big yes..... The field is very strong..... The top 20 cars are pretty good......

At STPR rally, with 90 entries, there was over 20 Subarus entered and only a handfull were P4 or PGT class..... Most were WRX STI's or Group N class.....

There were also over 14 Evo's entered....

On the SCCA championship, it's starting to get pretty serious..... David Higgens is leading in his open Class WRX.... He's the 2001 British Champion..... Then you have Lovell who is the 1999 British Champion......

For McGeer and Sprongl (running in the Escort), it's going to be hard..... The Higgens brothers are very fast....... and excellent drivers....

Here's the official site:
http://www.maineforestrally.com/

So far, you have 96 cars entered....... Last year, there was 120 cars entered...... and in the first 39 cars in the start list, 38/39 are either open or group N class.......

Wow, that entry field looks like it's going to be fun fun fun... I can't wait to see how our canadian contingent does compared to the americains, especially since we're sending our two top guns in McGeer and Sprongl... And Julien will be there too, hopefully he can do as good as at STPR!

So Robin, I guess you're not heading down? Do you know if Chip and Dan will be going anyways?

And also, when is the St-Agathe rally, I'd like to know so I can plan something ahead for that weekend!

I'm really getting excited about the rally!! I've realized that I've been to Rumford several times, driving to and from Halifax, NS and Hamilton, ON.

Anyhow, I've made my-self a map, that has the schedule, the map from the web site and a larger, more dtailed map of the area ( I composited a bunch of MapPoint images to make on big one )

Below is a preview, e mail me ( mziubinski@moveable.com ) if you wan a full size PDF designed for printing on 11x17 ( tabloid ) in portrait mode.
