Default Leaking oil from head gasket

I have faithfully owned my 2005 2.5RS Impreza since new and currently have 140,000 kms on it. EVERY service has been done through the dealer because I felt through the warranty period I should, and while I've paid heavily for it, I justified it knowing the best people were looking after my baby.

Anyway, that being said, today's MAJOR service turned up that I have a very small leak of oil from my head gasket, nothing to worry about now they assure me, but a leak none the less. I don't know the first thing about head gaskets, just that it sounds like a hellish piece to get at and in all my years of owning old cars, I have never had issues with head gaskets.

Now I feel like I'm driving a time bomb that's ready to go off at any moment, like I'll have to drive careful in case I blow my head gasket, is that any way to be having owned this car from new and taken it in for every service to the dealer?

I'm feeling really frustrated that my car has let me down, why should I be faced with such a horrendous problem which no doubt will cost me and arm and a leg?

Any feedback would be helpful, I really just feel like writing Subaru, this doesn't feel right to me but maybe I'm out of my mind?

Eve

I'd say call Subaru of Canada. They might have some mercy for being a loyal customer, maybe cover/split the cost. It is a labor intensive job. It could cost a couple thousand CAD, maybe a little less depending on the dealer.

However, if they (SoC) don't do anything for you, don't lose composure. Your small leak might remain small for quite some time/miles. There is a guy with a 2008 Legacy with similar issues (and pics) in this thread: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1666964

I would definitely still call SoC and get it documented as leaking at this mileage, hopefully keeping a door open in the future.

Default head gasket leaking oil

Thanks for the message, I will do as you say, open a case, I would think having had every service, oil change done through the dealer should count for something so I will not back down on this, a 50/50 share of cost would be reasonable but we'll see. I will check out your thread when I'm not at work!

I have a 2004 WRX that I bought used last year. I have done all maintenance and babied the car like crazy. I got the car tuned in February, and during the pre-tune check up they said I had a very small oil leak coming from the head gasket, and told me it was no big deal. Tuned the car anyway. Not even a month later, I go to change my oil and the leak is MASSIVE. Thankfully, I caught it before any serious damage was done to the car.

I ended up spending 2,400 dollars to have it fixed. That was probably stupid of me to pay that much... =/

I don't mean to give bad news, but keep a close eye on it. Mine went from nbd to screwed in less than a month.
