I'm ready to do my '05 STI headlights. A few quick questions though:

1. What do you guys use to reseal the lenses when you're putting it all back together?
2. Where did you order the "chrome" turn signals and parking lights?

becareful & take your time on the reseal...seems most of these projects fail because of condensation buildup.

I heard using permatex works well, any other suggestions as to what to use?

1: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1770217 is a good thread for resealing headlights questions.
to sum it up though: butyl rubber is OEM. It works great, is cheap, and is usually available locally.

2: dont quote me on the sizes, but im pretty sure these are the bulb sizes for the 05 sti:
Parking Light Bulb Size: 168
Front Turn Signal Light Bulb Size: 7440

1157AST Sylvania Silverstar Signal Bulb 1157A ST - PAIR:Amazon:Automotive
is the bulb that i used for my turn signal, but thats a different size. I imagine Sylvania makes a silverstar ST bulb for your type, just would have to search for it and look at the details to see what color it flashes.
Advanced auto and cardomain.com are both great places to get them.

Only thing stopping you from guinea pigging it is a can of paint and a few hours. I think it might look pretty good.

If it doesn't look right, just takes a few hours to fix the next day.

Alright guys...

I've begun taking on this project today on my '07 WRX. I followed all the steps necessary to remove the headlights, bake them, and get the lenses apart to begin painting. I took my time to tape off as close to a perfect circle as I possibly could around the projector, allowing me to keep the silver ring around it. I have now added 3 layers of flat black paint (wet sanding between each layer). I am letting this third layer dry over night. But I'm wondering if anyone has any tips about getting the tape off without causing the paint around the edge of the tape to start peeling. I'm super nervous to just start ripping the tape off.

One thought I had was to take a razor blade and cut perfectly around the edge of the tape to separate it from the paint. Has anyone done this? If not, what did you guys do to ensure a perfect line around the ring after pulling the painters tape off?

Thanks!

Examples of what I'm aiming for...

I didn't have any problems peeling mine at a 90deg angle to the tape line. Go slow.

Its best get your stuff all taped up, then run a piece of tape around for a good edge. Then after your last coat you peel it off when it still tacky. Best way without any peeling, it also leaves a softer edge.

You can use Krylon or basically anything from your local Sears or whatever. For mine, I wanted to use the same color as my body paint so I google'd my car's paint code and ordered a can of spray paint. I got the gold spray from JSC Speed, I think the stuff was made by GrimmSpeed. But basically anything paint will work. Just make sure you get a nice primer like Krylon fusion for plastics.
