Default modify inner helmet?

Went to a shop to try on different helmets the other day and non of them fit right. Apparently my head is shaped different than most people. 1 of the helmets, the HJC AR10, fit damn close, just too tight on the fore head. The guys at the shop said that I could shape the inside of the helmet to better fit me, and that is not an uncommon thing to do.

Is that a legit thing that is done or could that cause safety issues? Some more SA2010 rated helmets will be coming out in the next couple of months and I am gonna wait and try those on first.

I've been told by a mfr that it can be done. However just a little bit to remove a hot spot. Not major resculpting to make it fit. 1mm or less.

That is exactly the situation. Causing a warm tingly spot on my forehead. I bet 1mm would do the trick.
