Default Help a Texan with a winter vacation

Good morning fellas

I'm trying to plan a short winter vacation with my girl to your beautiful state. I would greatly appreciate your help in finding the perfect spot for us. I've been to Grand Junction, and Steamboat Springs but not for the type of vacation I'd like to plan now.

I'll list some things I plan on bringing, and would like to do as well as some descriptions of the area I'd like to be in.

We'll be taking my 2011 sti across state lines for the first time

The only things I plan on bringing are camping supplies for two, including cookware, food, and my handgun and .22lr (CHL holder). The main things I would like in this trip are: snow, but not an aggravating amount, mountains (mostly for scenery), and WIDE OPEN TERRAIN to be able to hike and drive without being so close to other humans. I would also need to be able to have a fire.

So please, throw suggestions of places I should look at. I really appreciate it

Zions, arches in utah or head towards Summit County in Colorado. From Summit you can find long state highway roads that are great drives and plenty of camping.

Did you seriously just recommend Zions and Arches for someone looking to get away from the crowds?

The Uintah National Forest. Best place in Utah for camping and the drive is beautiful through the mountain roads.

I like going backpacking Canyonlands when it's not too hot.... I've backpacked there and don't see anybody until I pretty much get back to the trailhead (Taylor Canyon loop).

No snow though. One of my favorite <1 mile from the car camping trips was Boulder Mountain off RT-12. Amazing drive, easy access to camp as you just pull over at a turn-out and go into the forest.

I was down on Boulder Mountain three weeks ago. There's still a lot of snow. The campgrounds are probably all still closed... the summit overview had about four feet of snow.
