So I brought my car to the dealer this morning. For whatever reason, the blinker was normal when I arrived at shop. But I have them check anyway and it'll take longer. Any comments anyone?

Did anyone get a CEL after installing everything? I got codes P0102 and some other one related to air intake temp. I assume this has something to do with the removal of the maf sensor plug... anyways, I cleared the light and I'll see if it comes back tomorrow.

Just noticed the passenger side blinker issue with my 11wrx (@17200 miles). Will have a go at this fix tomorrow.

Don't need to take off airbox and ram. Turn tires to the left, pull clips on inner fenderwell. Reach inside and loosen the wire tension on plug. Wiggle and I think I unclipped one clip while behind there. Less than 10 minutes.

I was recently having this problem with my 2.5i and finally fixed it today. I have less than 3000 miles and it had been doing it off and on for a few weeks. I went to Pep Boys and bought a new bulb and it works. I did remove the Box and scoop to get at the bulb. I had to unplug the MAF sensor, so the Check Engine and Traction lights came on, and the Cruise light was blinking. A simple ECU reset fixed that though...works great now! *knocks on wood*

Will likely work for other years as well.

I just did this on my 2012, driver's side bulb, as stated - pull the wiring from the 'guide' molding into the back of the headlight housing and instant slack, YMMV.

I had the spastic blinker on my '11 WRX, front passenger side. It was intermittent for a few weeks before going full retard.

I had the car at the dealer to switch out tires and asked them to look at it. They said it was a known issue, and said they re-routed the wire to give it more slack. That worked for a day or two, then it went back to the fast-blink. I tried messing with the wire with the hazards running but couldn't get the bright filament to light up. I was going to wait until the first oil change to let them have another go at it, but one day on the way home from work it got on my nerves so I stopped and bought bulbs.

I took out the air cleaner box (hadn't heard about the fender-well approach, or I'd have gone that route), replaced the bulb, and it's been fine in the week since. I looked at the bulb I removed and I didn't see any break in either filament, but I couldn't get it to work no matter how much I messed with it or the socket or the wiring when I had everything taken apart.

I had the same constellation of lights as Raptor89, but reflashed the ECU and all's well.

So it seems that the issue can be tight wiring, or a bad bulb, or both.

Hey all,

Love my subie but I have both sides blinking full blast, and I'm embrassed to use my blinkers on a new car... This could be dangerous.

Im going to attemp this, and If I trip any of the senors how do I reset ECU to clear the lights on the dash board?

Thx.

No sensors to worry about! Really, take the battery out on the drivers side to get more access there, on the pass. side pop out the intake 'funnel' and you'll be good to go. Once you have access you'll see where to adjust the wires to give them more slack. Have fun!

So glad I found this thread today. I have the same problem. Passenger side front blinker on a 2011 WRX hatch. Thought I might have clipped something taking off the bumper cover installing the hella horns, but I'll take a look at this now instead.

Explains why it worked sometimes and not others.

Wish I found this write up sooner cause its simple to do and saves me time to the dealer.

Is there a write up with pics anywhere on fixing the drivers side front blinker?

No pics needed but the long and short is disconnect both battery terminals (negative first), pull the battery out after taking out the tie down, and then pull thru wire out of the 'guides' for it built into the housing. Get those hangs dirty and you'll see

My problem wasn't with tension on the line. It seemed that the wire harness is going bad. I put some black tape on the wires at the base of the harness so that more pressure was on the contact point and that seemed to fix the problem. The next time i bring the car into the dealer i will have them fix it properly.

Default 2011 WRX Blinker issues cont.

I would like to make sure owners take a close look at the bulb when this happens, The blinker/parking light has two elements in it. So it might appear that it isn't burnt out cause you see the parking light element still working, but the blinker element IS burned out
I've replaced burnt out left blinker 3 times, and the right blinker once now.
The last left blinker I replaced I used a NAPA BP1157NA bulb, it only lasted 1,400mis and less than a month. Let's see how long the second one lasts?
Also I've checked my wiring and it doesn't appear tight, the left did have bit of a kink to it near the battery, so I worked that out. But I really dislike dealerships so I would like to fix this issue if possible myself.

I had the same thing

I brought it into the dealers and they said it was because of tension in the wires and they loosened it by taking it off the clips.

However, after driving the symptoms appeared again. So I tried to fix it myself and I moved the wires around and only when i turned the bulb socket clockwise all the way, the blinkers became normal. I'll see how long this lasts.

Btw, I did this all through the wheel fender

This is what I did as well. Front right was going out, so I unclipped the front of the wheel liner and reached up in there. Unscrewed the whole bulb and replaced and made sure it was tight. I then moved the wires as I felt them tangled and being pulled up.

Havn't had a problem in about 6k miles.

Man, I still need to do this. Thing is that....both my blinkers do this. I guess it's time to get under the wheel wells then.

As stated in the previous post, both my passenger and driver side signals blink like crazy and neither of the bulbs are out. I've already taken my car into the dealership to get this fixed and they ended up replacing the whole headlight assembly on my passenger side. It worked for as long as it took to get on the highway from the dealership, which was about 2 minutes. Instead of going to the dealership again, I followed a separate set of directions from another NASIOC member that is pretty straightforward and included a picture guide for it.

Apparently, if you have messed up, twisted wiring like I did, it's a lot easier to go through the fender liner than removing the airbox or doing anything crazy on the driver's side like removing the battery. I started with the passenger side and tried removing the airbox first and well, that's a pain in the butt because of numerous things like loosening a bunch of things, prying tubing off clips and removing that bottom bolt that you need an extension for.

First, open your hood and turn your wheel towards the inside of the side of the car you're working on. If you're working on the driver's side, turn the wheel towards the passenger side. Open the hood for visibility when you're getting into the wheel wells.

Second, remove the three retaining clips in the front portion of the fender liner and remove the larger retaining clip at the bottom of the car.

You will need a Philips and two flathead screwdrivers for this. Once they're loosened, just pop them off.

Once popped off, you can pull the fender liner away from the fender.

After you pull enough of the liner away from the fender, you can look inside and find the signal bulb socket. If yours was like mine, it would be all mashed up somewhere (especially on my passenger side), doing 360 degree loops and twisted a bunch.

Third, twist and unplug the bulb socket, make sure the bulb is properly seated in the socket, straighten the wires to the best of your ability, tug a bit to give it some slack and then put the bulb back into the socket.

Fourth, test the turn signal you just fixed. If it's still freaking out, then you might have an issue that is not described here (dead bulb, maybe?). If this fixes it, then success! Go get yourself a beer!

At last, reassemble the fender liner and push the clips in.

Repeat these instructions for the other side, if your passenger side signal is freaking out.

Good luck!

I drove my car around for a good 20 miles or so after doing this and so far so good.
