Default Check engine, traction control, blinking cruise control lights

I started my car today and noticed the check engine light and traction control off lights were on while the cruise control light was blinking, but there wasn't any whining noise or anything. The car is a brand new 2011 WRX with only 270 miles on it...obviously it needs to be taken in, but what could cause a problem like this in such a new car?

this is an example of the kind of thing that is 100% impossible to tell...and a waste of time.

Without a code to tell us what is unhappy, there is NO answer to this.

Get the code = get the answer

People have had this issue and discussed it extensively on the IWSTI forums. I think it had to do with a brake switch or the like. Go check it out and it should be an easy fix courtesy of that warranty you have.

when the check engine light comes on in newer subies, it also makes the cruise inop, and traction control inop, that is why they all blink. so you neeed to pull the codes.

Check your gas cap. Make sure it is seated properly (tighten it and then go a few "clicks" past)

Bottom Line:

It's a new car - take it to the dealer. The will check the code that initiated/caused the CEL (Check Engine Light) and it could be the result of a variety of things, from the Gas Cap mentioned, to a misfire, bad plug wires, or a variety of other more serious maladies. Best bet - see the dealer!

True, just pointing out that it was an issue that has occurred with others even if the code wasn't related.

I got the exact same problem! Crazy. But i've got 12k miles on it already.
Had my check engine light come on, traction control wouldn't turn off and cruize control wouldn't work but light blinked on and off.

Hah. I did the gas cap test too. It wasn't the gas cap.

Dealer found it's a bad mass air flow sensor in the exhaust system (can't really confirm exactly where? I forgot what he said mostly becuase he seemed unsure. He mentioned a sensor on the exhaust, past the cat) Anyone have this problem?

Engine's been sputtering for the past 2 months now. I'm not sure if it's becuase of the heat? Humidity? bad Freestate fuel (is F-state really that bad)?

What did the dealer find out Cobler19?

I had it happen because I unplugged wire on top of the airbox to change air filters on my 2011 wrx and when i plugged it back in it didnt seat all the way. Have you done any maintenance or change anything recently?

I'm having this problem too! Just went out to my car after not driving it for two weeks and this started happening. The care was perfectly fine before i drove it.

Anyone know if this will be bad to drive on for a while? I will not be able to get to the dealership for a long time.

Thanks.

Its called blocking codes depending on your codes certain programs/features need the information on from that sensor to run if its not working then you get flashing lights and nothing works! my buddy O2 heater wire melted on his 2001 wrx and same problem simply scan the vehicle with obd2 scanner and your car computer will tell you exactly where to start looking simple fix

Thanks man, i hope i can drive on it a little longer before getting it fixed. My car sat outside in the 100 degree heat for 2 weeks, and when I came back, the problem started.

Fixed. I opened the hood and jingled the sensor on the intake, also tightened my gas cap. The next time i started my car, the blinking cruise light and engine light went off.

you guys are the best! i swear without nasioc, i'd just be a lost scooby nooby

so i had this problem except i was ripping it down on 2nd and shifted pretty badly to 3rd and my subie shook pretty vigorously and then the lights came on.

Check engine light, Traction Control, and the blinking cruise.

I started to freak out and I came across this page on the forum.

I read about the o2 sensor and stuff cuz I just got a invidia downpipe and mxp headers installed with a o2 bypass thingy. Sounded too complicated so i looked for another solution.

and then i read about what you could do with the intake wire + gas cap. I just wiggled around with the air intake wire + open then tightened the gas cap and then the lights were gone!

ITS A MIRACLE.

Hmm.. I just had the issue arise. I was on the freeway, and in 5th gear and WOT while lane changing. I have a feeling it was an overboost given the nature of the cold temperature (1:30a). I did see it go to about 19psi on my Defi gauge. Can anybody chime in on what could be the issue?

- - - P.S. The recapping of the gas cap didn't help. Neither did the unplug/plugging of the connector to the intake.

Mods:
- COBB Stage II CA/91 OTS map
- INVIDIA Catted Downpipe
- INVIDIA Q300 Catback System

^^ Pretty sure you overboosted.
Clear the code with your AP. You can also try using the LWG map since Cobb recommends using this if youre exceeding the target boost. The ECU reacted and cut off the fuel and automatically goes into "limp" mode.

Another thing I should add/recommend, especially if this happens to you alot or even if this was the first time, is to get protuned. A good tune will go a long way.

Have an 08 sti with those same mods. Same exact thing has been happening to me as I'm ripping through 5th. The car almost stutters for a split second, then come the lights.

I'm assuming it's overboosting? Need to get the code checked. What exactly could fix it if that ends up being the issue?

A good tune will fix it. What kind of DP are you running? Normally happens more if it was catless.

Yeah it's a catless invidia dp, magnaflow exhaust, stock intake cobb stage 2 map.

Unfortunately, I won't be in a city that has a subie dealership for a couple weeks. Do you think I could get my codes checked elsewhere? or does it have to be at subaru

I have a hi-flow catted downpipe, but that might be negligible. I haven't run into the problem since then. It went away after a few days of normal driving. I also have been driving in even colder weather than when I had experienced the over-boosting, yet my boost gauge (Defi) has not shown any overboosting (25-35 deg F).

Ding ding! Uncle Scotty wins!

This happened to me today during some very spirited driving during low 30's temps.

Invidia catted DP
Borla 3" exhaust
Cobb stage 2

I checked and cleared the code with the AP. first time it has ever happened. I blame the cold temps and the Cayenne Turbo!
