Unhappy Back to the body shop. This time the suby driver is really at fault.

Well, i'm seriously thinking of selling this car.

It will make my father happy.
It MAY make me feel better.

I'd most likely pick up a Impreza L Wagon or OBS... A beater...

I rigged the camera into Robs car, and we took off down redwood road, towards oakland from Castro Valley. When we started, we were really flying, and by the time we go to Chabot Park/Lake I wasn't going very fast. Just past the park entrance, doing 40, i come to a 20mph left turn. I let on the brakes a little, and turned in, and i felt i was going too fast for the turn.

I did the wrong thing. I pressed the brakes again. Did one complete spin, and near the end of it scrubbed the side of the road. Dirt and rock mound. Paint has been stripped from an area of the bumper, but that's it. Rocks got into the gap behind the rim, and the tires. Wheel Works is going to take those out for me. I pick up the car at 5pm. Justin, you could see it, it's at the one on Newark Blvd, near albertsons, and kragen.

I'm so upset at myself. I KNEW that i wasn't supposed to press the brakes, but i did. and now i have to explain this to my dad. He's never taken anything lightly. It was a honest mistake, just like following too closely on the highway in wet weather, and bumping someone.

Sigh....

THe body shop guy has said that the work done prior is closed. So no tacking it onto the insurance paper for more paint. He said they may have more paint left. I hope so, it shouldn't take too much to fix. They'd have to apply paint to the black part, and blend it in.

1 wrong decision after another...

Dang Gagan, another mishap. Not too bad this time. Your car should be fine.

Well, if i don't post tonight, assume my father has killed me.

man, i used to get into trouble all the time, and then for years, and years i never really did. Still, he hasn't changed... Soon as i make a mistake, he's going atomic.

I'll let you know what's up.

StankFootz (scott?)- if they suby goes up for sale, i'll PM you, as i know your sister was looking for one.

Man, I (we?) would kill for that car, but.... the fam couldn't wait and got my sister a Legacy. I wish I had the cash, I would surely buy it from you myself if the price was right. Sadly I quit my job a while back and have been living off savings and guitar sales.

*Trying to think of a way to get money other than working*

Sure wish I was spoiled like my sister and could get my parents to buy me a car... Oh well.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I'm sure it will all work out.

Well,

I have family over from Canada, so my dad's reaction was limited...

He's not going to kill me, or sell the car.

However, i could definatly see me not being at any meets for a while.

but heres the killer: No mods...

Looks like i'm going to have to save up now... not much to spend on if i can't spend it on the car. However, my clutch will probably go out by winter, so i need to save up for that.

I really thought i was gonna die in this one. When the car spun, i thought i'd break the mound or go over it, and down into the gully. Anyone recommend a driving school? could you post some links with info?

Gino, i'm gonna get me a SCCA membership, and listen to your advice on doing it safe, and keeping it legal.

u got lucky with the family company man... real lucky. it's kool that he's not gonna sell it. personally, i would stick with the 2.5 anyway. selling it wont make you feel better, trust me. do like we were talking about. slip in small, unnoticable mods. for instance, the WRX brake rotors. small but effective mod. i don't see anything wrong with sneaking in some upgraded safety features.

Yeah, no kidding... I think both Rob and I are now taking a step back and viewing this as a learning experience.

And how much does it cost to auto-x?

With your WRX you should have received a free 1 year membership to the SCCA, otherwise it's $75.00 for a year. Not all clubs require SCCA membership but the San Francisco Region does as the events are very popular. Entry to each event after that is $25.00. For schedules check here:

http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2

When you get to the event you sign a waiver at the "gate" and get a wristband. You then go to registration, pay, get your time card, and sign up for your work assignment. That's all there really is to it. But....

You'll want to bring an air pump and a tire pressure gauge to pump your tires up. You'll also probably want white shoe polish to mark the sidewalls of your tires to tell you how much rollover you're getting (too much more air, too little less air).

I'm only kind of touching the tip of the iceberg in terms of information. The best thing to do is get your membership taken care of, check the sfrscca website for event info, and show up. Find any WRX and ask us to walk you through the process (registration, tech, work assignments, driving, etc).

Cheers, Joe

P.S. Sorry if I'm regurgitating stuff, I started this message in the morning and didn't have a chance to finish it until later on.
