Default Looks like GST is stepping up their game!! It's so flat ;)

Nhat just sent this to me. It's about time someone in the unlimited classes did a chop-top for CG and frontal area! Looks like the doors are skins now, the driver is moved back and I'm going to guess the engine and trans (firewall somewhat) were pushed back too (steering stops to keep CV's from popping out I'm guessing).

Can't wait to see it out at Big Willow next month.

I hear this car and the Top Speed chopped top L might both be making an appearance out in Chicago this September.

Of course they will. We'll need a challenge for when we are there.

Guard Transmission LLC...I know them from the Porsche world.

You can actually read it at the leading edge of the hood.

It was a rhetorical question. I own Guard Transmission. The sequential gearbox in that car came from me...

Here's from last Oct. from when we installed it:

And from the next day at Sears Point when we allowed them to do "try before you buy" testing on it.

This was before the chop top and further lightening, but in less than 5 laps with the box in the car they shaved nearly 1.5 seconds off their previous best time. They set one track record (Fontana) last year with it. I can only imagine what's going to happen this season with the new configuration on the car.

Shut the front door!!

I didn't know you owned Guard. We had tested some of your stuff in the Race Prep Motorsports cars (I think George at Eurosport tossed a few in customer's cars too) a few years back. I was planning to get a LSD from you for the Getrag I have for a little project of mine. Explains some of your interest (and obviously mine) in kcpaz's boxster thread.

Wanna share details on your trans? I'm interested to hear more.

That's funny. I was just on the phone with George 5 minutes ago. We repaired some Cup Car seqeuntial gears for him earlier this week. I actually flew out there in Feb. and spoke at their PCA regional open house they had in their other store. I've quite fond of the Europsport Racing operation, and being a dirty scumbag at heart Tim McKenzie's 914-6 is my favorite car in the fleet of cars they service for arrive and drive.

I keep the Guard thing a little low key around here just because there's really no point in wearing it on my sleeve. But I've started to speak up a little bit here and there of late because of the Subaru gearbox thing. We're the exclusive North American distributor of Modena Engineering, so it's Frank's design in the GST car. It's the same gearbox that Tomi Makinen uses and sells in Europe, as well as was in the Elion Dakar Foresters.

I can't tell you too many details about GST's box without revealing proprietary stuff, like ratios. It's built on an '04 case with full dry sump lubrication and a true and proper seqeuntial design. None of this sequential shifter BS that some other guys are marketing. It's a derivative of their V8 Super Car gearbox converted over for use in the AWD case.

It's got 3 complete clutch type LSDs to it with no adjustability on the center diff. On a car like this it isn't required. Again, I cannot reveal the locking factors as we've spec'd them for GST but clearly they are for high speed high power tarmac usage.

This car is going to be one to watch this season, and if internet rumours hold any truth it may get some attentionon the world stage before it's all said and done.

Neat stuff, would love a box like that in our car but I get the feeling we can't afford it, nor is it allowed in mod class. Actually all I want is a rear diff at this point.

GST will be representing Team USA at the World Time Attack in Sydney Australia

http://www.worldtimeattack.com/index...-in-pro-class/

Quote:
We are proud to announce the second entry from the United States is the GST Motorsports WRX or more correctly the Impreza L. This car has undergone a major transformation over the American winter months in preparation for the trip down under and this included a serious weight reduction campaign, a 3 inch roof chop and an increase in power to over 650 horsepower at all four wheels. After competing in the May round of the US Global time attack series the car will be pushed into a container bound for Sydney and the GST crew are keen to show the world that they have one VERY serious weapon that, along with their US counterparts Sierra Sierra, should be capable of well and truly mixing with the best Japan has to offer

Speaking of Australia, getting there is expensive and there are a couple of fund raisers going to help them pay for travel expenses. Kognition Design is having a raffle and giving the wing from last year to the winner:

http://kognitiondesign.com/gst-fundraiser.html

And I'm selling hellafunctional stickers as well to send a few bucks their way:

http://hellafunctional.com/?page_id=515

Combined we've raised a little over $500 already and the car goes on a boat in a few weeks. I haven't heard from Mike lately but the were supposed to be out at infineon last weekend testing.

George the monkey approves of hellafunctional:
